The ashes 2023

There's a reason this target or higher has only been chased successfully seven times in Test history, and only once in England (Bradman's Invincibles at Headingley in 1948), even with every flat pitch and friendly atmosphere conditions imaginable across all those Tests. It's difficult to maintain the momentum necessary for that amount of runs without making enough mistakes, even on a docile pitch and if there's the odd hundred stand.

Interestingly, most of the victories have come with only 3 or 4 wickets down maximum, which also indicates that making these big targets tends to only happen when specialist batsmen are still at the crease.

We did it so many times last summer though, we kinda showed the way how to do it.

Two days to chase on a very flat pitch isn’t normal in test cricket because of the speed england score at across both innings

normally, the Aussies would only have a around a day to chase this total - the way they can play - (slowly ) means that unless our spinners can get their act together, this is very ‘chaseable’.

the issue for them here is that rain will shortly curtail the day which mean they have around 90 overs tomorrow to score 280 runs

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure about this - if it were true, there wouldn't be that many 300+ fourth innings totals at all because of those selfsame time constraints. But there are quite a few, the vast majority in a losing cause.

I stand by what I say in that this remains difficult for Australia to do and if they do, then it will be a statistical outlier.

Only once with a target around this amount - the rest were around or lower than 300.

If half of today is lost to rain, and Australia finish up tomorrow at 340 for 2 (they won't, they'll still be all out, mark my words), do we think there will be quite as much clamouring for the rules to be changed to allow extra time as we saw at Old Trafford??

No chance.

Well, not no chance, but almost no chance. They won't win this.

Australia proving against all blind and arrogant pundits..& English media, that they are still worthy opponents & English bowlers ,haven't yet found how to bowl on this wicket..I said if no early wickets 370-430 lead might not be good enough..But I still hope for a breakthrough of 2-4 quick wickets..This old 4the Oval innings record,is on the line..I want Desperately England to win,but if Australia turn it around, then they are truly worthy of the win,and label of Test world champions..

So far seems our 2 greatest bowlers are short of ideas, though actually bowling tight, wkts not coming..A Wood and Broad rush we now need..

Not really...Still more English Ashes series have been completed as not over,

Last 100/50/25/10 yrs, even with occasional rain / badlight interruptions.

70% play tomorrow a result is on the cards, upsetting that a Test ruined what looked like a great equalising win...

But both sides have shown they can turn a game and IMO Bazball or Aussieball,is at present on par with each other...

Bazball mentality has helped the English game, where big collapses for

Little amount of runs seems to be over meaning we can challenge with 280-400+ totals, and not consistently only accumalating 190-230 runs. Those small extras count, but still rarely does our tail wag,or both top 4-5 plus last 7-11, bite together..

Australia still have shown their tail can add consistently 70-130 runs plus..

But wouldnt it be great never have any days ruined beacuse of the weather?.   1000's of fans waiting around hoping they can see some cricket.  Matches lost, history lost to rain.

I know it will never happen.  In my perfect world they'd me one just big stadium in the midlands with a roof and that would be it, bulldoze the rest and have teams share a few cricket grounds for the county games.

Nope we should build pubs and an equal nr of fish n chip shops, then a central covered market first, then houses around them.

then at 4 pts of the compass..4 Gp Centers with 2 hospitals. With post office and sweet shops..Then two sides of the Town

4 sport stadiums..Football,Rugby,Cricket,Athletics,with Basketball court Then various schools with easy access from the housing…

You're crazy, no-one can afford fish and chips these days.
