The ashes 2023

I know it's easy enough to criticise bazball and losing easy wickets but at least most of the batsmen have given it a go. England's bowling, often in favourable conditions, in both of these tests has been utterly dreadful. Based on the lack of success pre-Stokes and the struggles so far in 2023 maybe bazball was just masking talent problems that the tactic alone wouldn't fix?

I agree on the last bit. We are an ordinary side and the maverick style makes us seem better and makes us dangerous but in terms of technique, mindset, consistency we have been behind for a number of years.

Probably coming down to us needing to bat a day and a half to salvage a draw and give us half a chance in the final 3.

Other than Root I wouldn't fancy many to play the long game if needed

We won’t play for a draw, Stokes has already said that. Unless it’s 6+ an over, we’ll always go for it.

That is literally the boy who cried wolf. If he didn't do that ridiculous over-celebration every time trying to con the umpire then he'd probably have just gotten that wicket.

It's like the cricket equivalent of footballers who dive all the time.

Yes I'm sure the umpire, who didn't think it was out, would have given it if they hadn't appealed.

Another observation here:

To beat a side as good as this Aussie one, no matter how good you are as well you need a bit of the rub of the green. In this Test, Aus have had practically all of that and England haven't had much at all.

You could also argue that England have had the rub of the green by having the best of the conditions so far.

We've literally won the toss, and had the weather all game. We've been pathetic, nothing short of that.

I was joking. One of the commentators (Pietersen) said they shouldn't be doing so and that's why they're not doing as well as they should be.

Oh I thought they were having a chat 🤣
