The ashes 2023

The point is valid, though. Hypocrites happy to be reactionary but then lacking the necessary courage to actually come back and admit they may have been hasty in their judgement, because it's never over until it's over.

There's a time and a place though for such discussions. Immediately after the winning runs have been hit people should be allowed to celebrate without being ticked off.

Brilliant in the end. Great that Woakes, someone who's often been messed around by England over the years, got it over the line too.

Need to be bold now. Foakes in, Anderson in for Robinson too if he's fit.

I guess you do have to play Jimmy on home turf, but I worry with how ineffective he's been so far.

....demonstrating a licence for timing that the people being critiqued likewise displayed?

I sympathise, but I'm just thinking "reaps as one sows" here.

Same. It's that home turf element for me too, coupled with Robinson not doing much better and his injury too.

Where are all the noisy boys who were telling us this test was lost on day 2?

Whilst I didn’t write it on this thread, at various points in this test I thought we’ve definitely lost, and now delighted we’ve won! That’s what sports all about!! Ups and downs and predictions based on pure emotion, long live that attitude! I know you’re not doing this btw - but there’s enough seriousness in life to be policing peoples sporting predictions

Back on topic can we PLEASE get foakes behind the wicket next, and get off the golf course this week and put some fielding practice in

I'd certainly drop Robinson, but I was wondering if Tongue would be a better option as a replacement. But not, Jimmy on home turf.

Fully agree. But reality will see Jimmy for Robbo being the only change.

If the pitch is going to turn out like Headingley, then I'd say play Wood and Tongue. Anderson's always going to give you that extra home ground boost though. Probably the safer bet either way.

Whilst I respectfully hear points made about my earlier comment, this forum is rife with people who gob off, expect to be tolerated and then rinse and repeat even when proven wrong. It makes much of the forum toxic and deeply unpleasant.

It's exactly how the tabloid press operates, and it's so unhealthy it's untrue. Anyone pointing this out gets othered and dismissed with 'it's not the time or the place'.

I'm delighted with the result that our useless bastards have just produced, but we only won because (insert your own self hating caveats here).

Tongue in Robinson out

Foakes in Bairstow out

It's not hard

I'd give Bairstow one more shout as a specialist bat at 3. Don't really think a frontline spinner is called for at OT and quite frankly Root could do as good a job as Moeen there.

So Foakes for Moeen and Jimmy for Robinson imo, purely because it's home territory for the latter.

Interested to hear Stokes say on TMS that Ali approached McCullum last night and volunteered to bat at 3. If Root's going to stubbornly refuse go up a place then you might as well keep him there. Stokes is better at managing the tail and he'd be the only other option really.

Not much between the sides.

Be good to know the amount of dropped catches between the sides, and how far England are ahead of Aus in that respect thanks to Bairstow mainly. That does seem to be the main difference...

England are 18 and Australia 13,

that was up until labushagne was dropped yesterday. How many did we drop after that ?  They put one down near the end today
