Liverpool (H) | Mon 15-May | 20:00 KO Sky Sports - Pre-match thread

Not so long ago, we would have gone into a game like this expecting something. Played our own game, feared nobody. It's quite tragic really just how far we have gone backwards under one manager.

For some totally absurd reason which i presume will change come 8.10 im feeling like a little child on Xmas eve.

I think we will get something as the day has gone on.

What a birthday present it would be for my 52nd year on this earth tomorrow!!

Come on you City slickers!!!!

I had a dream we did it. 3-1 win Vardy hatrick, but tbf in the same dream I quit my job to set up a company that sold tarpaulin to airports so take it with a pinch of salt.

How much for a tarpaulin to cover the pitch? It'd be like the old days for an away game. Scoreboard could be our teletext

Anything other than a point and it has to be over.  I’ve been saying this every game for weeks, but this one really does feel like the last chance saloon.

I’m not sure, there is a small chance that 34 points could be enough given the good goal difference.

Genuinely baffled by any of you being optimistic.

I can see us mustering four points from Newcastle and West Ham so I'm not without hope.

Think Liverpool will dispatch us as comfortably as Man City did though.

As Morgan Freeman once informed us all, in The Shawshank Redemption, hope is a good thing; maybe the best of things. So, given that it’s the last time it might get to see the light of day in these parts for some time ……….. just imagine if we could pull off a result tonight? 😍. That table would be transformed and the pressure on those around us would be enormous. Just imagine ….

I don’t see anything gained from Newcastle away though. Even with their dip in recent form I think they’re gona trample us.

No chance. Everton will win at least one of their games and Forest will pick up a minimum of 1 point. That would mean 35 points to stay up.

We need to win 2 games.

liverpool are an odd duck really, im not quite sure the best approach. Well that’s a lie, I know the best approach it’s just not one we are capable of.

We definitely don’t want a basketball game. That’s not something we would be able to come out on top of. Any approach similar to wolves, leeds or everton would lead to a 5+ goal defeat.

We also don’t want to sit back and be passive. As they will just grind out a 1 or 2 goal win… and that’s if we manage the basics.. which we’ve not been capable of.

Thw only real way to win this is a defensively organized, counter attacking team that presses well.  Basically how we won the title. Liverpool overplay as they know if they can break the lines they will be ruthless but what that means is if you can pinch the ball in the right area you can punish them. Sitting off like we did with man city does nothing but allow them to build up until they score.  Kdh and mendy in the middle with the sole intention of pressing would be my way to make this work.  I honestly hate a dm when you have a back 5 but we don’t have any other players that would willingly press the ball effectively.

If you have a front 3 of barnes vardy and maddison all those 2 need to do, is win the ball and shift it to them as fast as possible. But again, for this to work the front 3 need to press well. I’m not convinced barnes has it in him to do this. But he’s also the only one capable of breaking at speed to support vardy.

back 3 of soyuncu, faes and souttar defending for their lives and we just hope to hell we can sneak a few goals and hold on.

i’m just not convinced we won’t set up like we did against man city and let’s be honest that was a white flag. We set up expecting to lose. We can’t do that today we have to make a game of it.

This is the thing. The players have to react to the criticism they are getting. For pride alone.

Also, I’m an idiot and falling for the idea that we can get something.

honestly same. we tend to either win or get smashed by Liverpool and I've got this feeling in my gut that it'll be the win.

that or it's trapped wind, hard to tell

I hear ya, as much as it pains me to say, to get that quick ball from back to front if we counter attack we need tielemans.

It’d have to be mendy and tielemans for me. KDH has been so sloppy in possession and that’s what’s cost us time and time again this season. When we win the ball and go for the counter, we play a horrific pass and ourselves get countered except we’re already in our final third.
