Newcastle 0-0 LCFC - Post-Match Thread

Recommended Posts

When did we become so bereft of confidence and so utterly shit that we can't even get the ball at Newcastle for 85 minutes of the game 🤔 utterly shocking!

That said Bournemouth have lost 3 on the spin and there's no way Gary O' Neil will accept a 4th to end the season flat as a pancake.

There is hope and it's that what kills you 😜

My main criticism was that it took us too long to put any pressure on ourselves. Frustrating them and making them have doubts about going for the win was the way to do it, but there was no real conviction in going for it at the end even though Newcastle knew they only needed a draw.

Bears eerie similarities to Stoke in 2008 to be honest.

Also - we as a club need to get more vocal about this officiating. We stand for having the piss taking out of us virtually every game. It's not good enough.

We have won 1 in 15 and people expect is to rock up and win.

That's the price you pay for losing twice to Southampton.

Very akin to Chelsea away a few years ago where we held them to a goalless draw (even had a man down).

When we want to show grit to grind out a result, the team can do it. Just a shame we didn't have any of that against the likes of Fulham where we caved in

Think its a little too late but as many say we've taken it to the final day which will always give us half a chance. Gonna be horrible not knowing what the scores are on Sunday

You don't need to worry about other scores unless we're winning as they're all academic.

Strange feeling watching that, let’s be honest we absolutely honked for 99% of the game. didn’t get near them but still about just kept them at bay (with more luck that anything) but a clean sheet and a small glimmer of hope for Sunday, though I can’t see Everton not getting over the line at home to Bournemouth. It’ll be interesting to see who starts on Sunday and if they can handle the pressure, all these “must wins” and we haven’t won one of them yet!

Four went down because it was a 22 team league which was going into a 20 team league. 42 games that season hence the high amount of points.

That's more when Prem players earnt their more modest amounts of money. at least compared to nowadays!

The one time we don’t want a dogged defensive performance with little attacking output. Was really disappointed at FT (I seemed to be in the minority in the away end) but after having a chance to look at the table it could be an important point. Means we can forget about Leeds and forces Everton to win. Just irritating we couldn’t pull out defensive, hard to beat, performances against Fulham and Liverpool.

Their attack has been lethal this season.

I get people being annoyed with the lack of ambition going forward but stopping their attack is not a simple task.

I get it but it’s even less simple when you’re constantly giving them the ball back because the system isn’t meant for you to attack at all.

Newcastle are in form and have demolished most teams they've played at St James' Park this season. To go there and get a point without conceding, when they were on the cusp of clinching Champions League football is objectively a good result. More remarkable given how shit we are at defending that we're the ones to keep them out.

Thomas and Souttar showed more fight in that game than we've seen all season - happy they'll both be with us next year regardless.

Forest beat Arsenal. They didn’t score in the last minute either.

No one expects us to rock up and win, but didn’t they know we need to win? Didn’t they want to try to press and play to win at the end? Nope. They rather time waste at the end.

If the players had shown 1% of that resilience against Fulham and Liverpool then we'd be safe. Shame it took Dean Smith so long to drag a performance out of them. More evidence, if it was needed, that Top and the Board left it too late to show Rodgers the door.

That performance we needed weeks ago, but still find it hard to blame the new guy as the malaise was ingrained long ago

Left needing sweet treats from Spurs and Bournemouth on the final day.

What a time to be alive…….but we are alive and final day will be exciting I guess

A point last night wasn’t a terrible result and if we go down (still most likely outcome) it won’t be because of last night.

but it does make you think what might of been. 22 losses and only 7 draws tells the story - if we had shown more of the fight last night even in recent games we would be safe.

the only thing we need from spurs is to not get hammered by a near record scoreline. leed aren't in the equation for us, it's all about Everton

Forest beat arsenal at home and they have been in form whereas arsenal have been going though a down turn. An away win at newcastle who have been in good form in context is a good result under a management team yet to improve the results seen under the previous incumbent. Not many gave us a chance of any result at newcastle and most were expecting a hammering. Credit where it is due. We still need to win at home agains West Ham but if we do so do Everton at home against Bournemouth. We have a better outlook than this time yesterday.

Take a look at Forest game stats and there’s huge similarities. A mighty slice of luck for their winner

no it doesn't. if we win by 1, the bare minimum for us, Leeds have to muller spurs 10-0 to then stay up on goals scored. there is no realistic world where we finish above Everton and below Leeds

We’re in a shit position but it’s not that performances fault, we got a decent point last night which took us above Leeds and means Everton must win. We’ve lost 22 games this season, including Southampton and Bournemouth at home getting mad at a draw away to 3rd in the league is focusing on the wrong issues.

Get an early lead on Sunday and let’s see what Everton without DCL are made of
