Mate - where are we getting 52k season ticket holders and a waiting list of 30k ??

Wrt to fanbase, they are well clear of our ceiling

I didn’t quote figures, for the record I think the West Ham fan may be exaggerating.

My overriding point was that they are just more fashionable due to being in London and having the bigger stadium handed to them. Clubs will always sell out and have a waiting list when performing well as West Ham have been doing in recent years under Moyes. I’m sure that waiting list would soon disappear if they were to drop down to the Championship again.

West Ham have a huge population to draw from

having lived down here for almost forty years you get a good sense of club size re fanbase. I was always surprised just how many West Ham fans I came across because I’ve never lived, worked or socialised in east London or Essex.

the numbers are interesting because since their move to the larger stadium, around 40% of season tickets have changed hands

that says their core base of committed season ticket holders is probably nearer 30k. I would say that’s reflective of a club that has a big draw of fans but wasn’t performing v well so unable to keep the non committed. The past three season where they’ve finished top 7 and now won a euro trophy will likely have solved some of this ‘leakage’ for now. It’s true that their ST pricing structure is a big draw and that leakage means they can’t simply increase as you’d expect a business to do if it had such apparent demand for its product.

Most of the recent posts are actually irrelevant in terms of Barnes. If West Ham want him, they will have to pay what Leicester demand.  They are no different to Arsenal.  Fortunately for us, any low balling by the Dildo King will be kicked into touch.  Minimum of 50m excluding ridiculous add-ons may swing it.

I wish I hadn’t said anything to be honest. I was not looking to get into a debate with other Leicester fans about how big West Ham are.

I was simply annoyed by the post of the West Ham fan basically with the tone coming through of ‘We’re massive and we’ll take Barnes thank you very much little Leicester’.

The big club debate is done over and over and gets boring fast. If you were to compare various metrics then yes they probably a bit ‘bigger’ than us albeit we are in the same grouping of clubs now (as mentioned by someone further up). As such, the idea they are a massive draw for our players is delusion. That is the case for maybe 5 or 6 clubs. If any of ours move to West Ham this summer, it’s simply because they stayed up this season and we didn’t and those players want to play in the premier league this season (as the wages of course). Nothing more, nothing less.

To be fair I don’t think he was saying that at all.

If they stump up the fee and wages he’s gone. No matter how big or small West Ham are compared to us historically.

Simple fact is, currently, we’re in the Champ and they are in the PL and in Europe again.

The point a lot of people are making is that the fee in this case is likely to be higher than West Ham are willing to pay..

The main factors for selling Barnes will be his preference, EG has he asked to leave. And us getting a good offer.

It's very different to Maddison, he has 2 years left instead of 1. If he's happy to stay and help us get back in the prem then I think he stays. I don't think we are desperate for funds as many, included me initially thought.

He's also not on a huge wage compared to others.

Unlike Maddison , Barnes is a fan , I think , and also our longest serving player so there is an emotional attachment. If he was 22 , he perhaps would be fine staying to help us back up but at 25 it could be too much of a risk. Until we get a firm offer its all guesswork.

Bollocks, Barnes has zero emotional attachment to the club. He’ll be gone without a second thought.

Opinions will differ but nobody really knows , we absolutely did know with Maddison.

The club surely develops players and they know they will at some point have a decision to make about keeping or selling. Just my opinion, Tielemans, we got wrong,Maddison about right, Fofana and Maguire off the radar right….it is Barnes time, club needs revenue, play a league lower than West Ham…..he will go, it’s right for him, the club, and we go again……

Then comes down to whether either party are prepared to reevaluate their position. If neither are then he isn’t going to West Ham.

With Rice gone and Thursday nights stretching a poor squad. It is a recipe for a season of struggling.

consecutive  relegations on Harvey's CV?

As opposed to championship player of the

Year and a nice big promotion bonus.

Is it a good move?

I think it’s pretty rare nowadays that players are that emotionally attached to clubs. Grealish, Gordon, all homegrown and left soon as they could. Barnes will be no different
