Barnes doesn't strike me as a player to kick up a fuss if we play hardball and he starts the season with us. He has two years left and needs to honour his contract if no respectable offer is received. If I were Barnes or Madders, I'd ask my agent to at least approach, say, Dortmund and Bayern or even PSG and see there was any interest there in the absence of any top clubs in the PL making buying signals.
