Premier League Thread 2023/2024

Can't wait for Castore to go pop.

I've got a bit carried away looking into them over the last few months, dodgy accounts, company structure, loads of celeb/big name investors holding small stakes, offshore accounts all over the gaf, no actual clue who really owns them or who pulls the strings.

If it's not some big tax avoidance scheme i'll be amazed.

The brothers who founded it are ex city bankers as well.

You can guarantee the sports teams they have contracts with are in on it too.

Managers and players keep saying things like this but never point that the increase of games is largely attributed to the extension of the European competitions and international competitions.

Also they'll complain about the amount of fixtures, then fly off to play a friendly in the winter break.

Yes that their own clubs demand to get more revenue.

I don't think many will have much sympathy with the big teams who spend billions on players.

Maybe need to look towards funding a better medical/fitness team?

Exactly. You can win both domestic cups in fewer matches than one European competition.

The domestic game has not increased the amount of matches in a league or cup for over 30 years (20 to 22 teams in the top division in 1991, back to 20 four years later). The League Cup has removed two legged first and second round games and only two rounds of the FA Cup have replays for PL clubs.

Europe has bloated the calendar.

If the bigger teams are not interested in the domestic cups because of injuries play all the reserves or youth team players might give someone else a chance of winning It then . Teams moaning now we have had ridiculous injuries for so long now I think it’s just expected that every other week we will have another one 🙈😂

The intensity of the game had increased along with the athleticism of the players - but there has to be a tipping point.  One wonders if the modern style to try and control the game also helps to preserve the fitness of your players

They saying these things at the same time the European competitions are moving to a nonsense format for more games and that they can have top seeds play each other

Notably the Rugby European Cup has scrapped said format because there is very little jeopardy and those top seed games are akin to friendlies or teams putting out second strings
