If I could I'd enact a rule where PL clubs would not be allowed to sign players from other PL clubs. All signings must have been at a non PL club for at minimum 12 months.

But then all the English players have to stay at the academy that they come through at, or wait until their club is relegated?

Not wanting to start anything as I am just genuinely curious, but plenty of other footballers have had similar charges yet still gone on to play unaffected. Is the outcry with this one literally because there was audio of the incident?

It was the same with Ray Rice in the NFL, countless incidents but that was the one who got the most backlash because there was video footage of it.

I agree with you & @stripeyfox kinda replied with much of what i might have said except 1 thing (well 2 things as i never spoke to his lad :D) & that is Should Man U themselves use their global platform & put him through that rehabilitation / education process & maybe use him in a public way to get the message out, they will reach & influence more young men than if a 21yr old is hounded out of the game & left to work on a building site, as much as an a-hole he is.

How many ex-burglars, gang members, 1 punch killers & general wrong'uns are now champions for certain causes/rights, just because we have heard an audio of the idiot doesn't mean his life should be over. We all know those groups i mentioned did what they did & just because we didn't witness them in the act directly doesn't mean they should be allowed to make life good again but what a then 19/20yr lad did can't because we heard a recording.

Manchester United’s plan to bring back Mason Greenwood was so advanced that the club even prepared documents outlining the type of images that should be taken of the player during training sessions and planned how manager Erik ten Hag should handle questions during an anticipated media storm.

According to sources with knowledge of United’s planning, who remain anonymous because they are not authorised to speak publicly, the club’s preparations for Greenwood’s return also included an assessment of the expected sentiment of external figures, listing individual football pundits, journalists and politicians and stating whether they would be for or against Greenwood’s reintegration. The planning divided these people into categories to the effect of “supportive”, “open-minded” or “hostile”. The club’s document listed a series of domestic abuse charities assumed to be “hostile”.

The Athletic’s story on Wednesday that United chief executive Richard Arnold held a meeting with the club’s executive leadership in the first week of August, in which he informed them United were planning to bring back Greenwood, has caused unrest inside and outside the club, with supporters voicing their opinions in letters and on social media, and intense staff meetings.

The internal process has not consulted any charities specialised in supporting women in cases where alleged domestic or sexual abuse has occurred.

I mean, if you're making that list and putting charities that help survivors of domestic violence as hostile to your decision, how do you not have an "are we the baddies" moment?

Beyond belief isn't it.

You'd imagine it's highly likely he gets banned or something if the move has fallen through

I mean personally I don't think any of them should have played again. Made me sick when, for example, Ched Evans came back and stepped on a pitch.

But yeah I think it's pretty obvious that the Greenwood case unsettles people because they feel they've actually witnessed something.

It's hard to slut shame or accuse a girl of lying when there's audio of the offending party literally telling her she's about to be raped.

It was pretty harrowing.

I’m certainly not disagreeing with it being harrowing, I’m just intrigued by the other cases that get brushed under the carpet because the tree didn’t make a sound.

I also find it intriguing, and I am sure this won’t go down well, that the person involved was able to forgive, aswell as family members, but the perfect general public want him hung.

For instance, Danny Simpson is a very popular player on this forum for obvious reasons - but why is everyone so happy to forget his (guilty) domestic abuse issue?

When was it the last time that Man Utd were an ethical club?..

Name me one ethical club. There is so much money at stake, and such fine margins, that i think most clubs would push whatever limits they had to protect their assets. I know someone fired for making a risqué comment to a colleague at a summer party. Greenwood has been protected, retained on the payrole, and significant resource has been assigned to engineer his comeback after pictures and audio footage revealed what he did. It beggars belief.
