The Championship Thread 2023/2024

Hull are a good side. Of all the sides we have played, they are the one with the most names that jump off the team sheet as being familiar. But not old has beens either. Players like Connolly and Greaves to name a couple. That’s from someone who hasn’t just ignored this league for the last few years either!

Solid and unspectacular.  Just have the look of a team that's going to be around 3rd-6th all season.

It's all well and good to talk about Southampton being fine when they can Martin, but who knows if they'd do it in time to save their chances.

Seri as well. Thought he bossed the game at our place.

There's hardly any quality in the Stoke v Hull game at present.

There’s hardly any quality in ¾ of this League.

So many are having a squirt over the prospect of romping the Championship.  Well, even if we do, watching us try to break down firmly parked buses in ¾ of our remaining home games may wear thin in a hurry.

Granted, it’s great fun going into games confident and seeing that confidence rewarded.   It’s normal to enjoy most other clubs’ fans seeing us as a free hit, expecting to lose to what is now a much bigger club.

But there’s also much to be said for watching quality football.  And for owning the contracts of your players rather than having to sell them at knock down prices and replace them with loans, developing others’ rather than your own.

I personally want out, and I want to get back to “boring” midtable stability testing ourselves against the world’s best talent.

Liam Rosenior is proving to be a decent manager so far. Sets his teams up to be very difficult to beat.

Impressed with Hull, they’re a decent side, like you say set up properly and are difficult to beat and carry a threat.

Stoke are absolutely rancid, like peering into the bowl of a services toilet, puddles of piss, few brown smears on the wall and a couple of nuggets that wont flush. Horrible football team.

First bit, agreed. Solid and unspectacular is often enough to get out this league.

Second bit, you can can have a really slow start to the season and still smash this league with so many games. They probably can’t afford to keep him longer than mid-November, but the longer the keep him the more it’ll be like us when Rodgers went where we were beyond repair.

Don’t think Stoke have threatened at all since getting relegating

Not sure what’s gone on there as they were always pretty well run

Maybe they just struck it lucky with Tony Pulis ?

Basically they weren’t that good when he joined but got then promoted.

Then he left as they wanted to go in a different direction in terms of style and approach but it’s gone wrong since then really .

They spent loads of money in the summer they got relegated. People are very dismissive of how well we are doing because of our financial situation in relation to most of the league. However, Stoke in 2018 prove that spending doesn't guarantee success. Chelsea at the moment are a more high profile example.

Sunderland look pretty hopeless, and yet they are supposedly one of the better teams in the league.

We were saying this about Norwich and Bristol City on the way out yesterday. We're miles ahead of most of the division after a handful of games with a side that's only been together for a few weeks.

They're very good defensively, he's got them set up not to concede and hit on the counter. They rode their luck vs us but I've seen a lot of their highlights this season and they're definitely a side that's going to get better. Connolly wouldn't look out of place if he was still at Brighton, good movement & still relatively young.
