Rank our old championship strikers

Nugent is a genuine club legend for me. Totally forgot Bednar ever put on a city shirt.

Bednar is genuinely the worst player I've ever seen play for Leicester. Was it a cup game v Grimsby he got subbed at half-time? I was begging for him to be subbed after about 15 mins. Awful, awful player.

Rank the following form best to worst. Not necessarily how they were for us, but their overall ability.  Basically if they were at the ability they had when they signed for Leicester and they cost the same, list the order youd be signing them in. (Ive left out the better ones to keep it interesting)

Mark Devries

Elvis Hammond

DJ Campbell

Jermaine Beckford

Gary Taylor-Fletcher

Iain Hume
Yakubu Ayegbeni

Trevor Benjamin

Martyn Waghorn

Roman Bednar

Danny Cadamarteri

Darius Vassell

Barry Hayles

Kermorgant

Wheres Paul Dickov??

Nugent was a class alround player. He had a silky touch when needed and tended to caress the Ball into the net.

Hume was terrific in a very poor team.

Howard let the line so well.

Dickov scored clever goals similar to Cottee by good positioning.

Woods strike against Burnley deserves special mention. A bit like Vardy's against Liverpool. Both had to do it all themselves.

I remember the excitement of signing Jermaine Beckford.

I love the fact that this was denounced to "it was a bad signing" in Sven's autobiography.

Cheers Sven. Only travelled up and down the ****ing country to watch that shit. 2 pages. 2 pages he did on us. Ahhhh ****.

1) Yakubu - poacher with a limited game but undeniably the best on this list

2) Darius Vassell - decent career, good supporting striker at his peak

3) Martyn Waghorn - didn't live up to his potential in the end but he at least had it

4) Yann Kermorgant - whisper it quietly, he wasn't too bad, just keep him away from penalties

5) Gary Taylor-Fletcher - Smart player but athleticism really held him back

6) Iain Hume - good graft, mediocre player

7) DJ Campbell - remember him being lazy and arrogant but an OK finisher besides that

8) Jermaine Beckford - Aldi brand Yakubu

9) Barry Hayles - lower league journeyman but scored goals

10) Mark DeVries - a target man who couldn't jump...

11) Trevor Benjamin - lower league journeyman, couldn't score

12) Danny Calamari - who?

13) Roman Bednar - who?

14) Elvis Hammond (ankle) - only use is to keep the physios busy, like a shit Bertrand

I feel Benjamin deserves a bit more respect than Hayles. Granted both were shite but Benjamin played a decent back up to Dickov and Deane for our promotion in 02/03.

Hayles was just woeful and hardly contributed.

Yakubu was too good to play in the championship. He was a great goal scorer.

David Connolly was very good and soon got taken by the league above.

Nugent is the quintessential championship striker though. Played that middle section between championship and Premier League. A great striker.

Stevie Howard was exceptional at that level doing the job he did and no mistake.

However, the best striker FOR THAT LEAGUE AND IN THE TEAM OF THAT TIME would be Fryatt. He scored goals well. He was feared. He made us better than we were without him. Unfortunate he isn't regarded more highly in the championship with us as people assume he was a League One player. Cracking finisher.

Op said not necessarily how they performed for us, so I looked up the stats

Benjamin - 106 goals in 448 career appearances (1 every 4.22 games)

Hayles - 315 goals in 1024 career appearances (1 every 3.25 games)

Thought Benjamins strike rate was worse than that but propped up by one season for Cambridge before signing for us

Fair point. For us is the only barometer I can go by.
