Harry Winks

£10m seems really steep but if he can bed in and rediscover the kind of form he showed under Pochettino, he'll be a steal and actually an asset if and when we're promoted.

"If" doing a lot of heavy lifting.

I'm actually ambivalent about signing Winks but my gripe is on price. In a negotiation you want to either pay your valuation or the opposite parties, whichever is lowest.

Winks is deadwood to Tottenham, one year left on his deal and no other suitors as far as I'm aware. If all that is true we should be picking him up for back of the sofa money not significant money. When we have surplus first team squad players we get buttons because we want to sell and the lack of multiple suitors means the buying clubs no they give us a take it or leave it. We just seem a soft touch and so naive, do you think at Tottenham t6hey felt they've been squeezed over Winks or high fiving each other for getting £10m?

Examples :

Ghezzal €3m

Gray €2m

The difference is, Praet probably wants out, and Winks wants in. They maybe similar, but it’s about building a team of players that want to go and achieve something. We’ve had Youri Tielemens look absolute garbage for 2 seasons

Winks and Coady feel like solid-but-unspectacular foundational signings that will complement what we have leftover after sales, and will be a good base for our side moving forward. Piroe seems a bit more of an exciting one, and I'm sure there will be some interesting young players signed as we move forward too - but we will need solid, experienced pros on the pitch and in the dressing room alongside more exciting flashy players. Maresca has spoken a lot about mentality change already - these are players who will give it their all on the pitch, and lead by example in the dressing room. At the minute, we have a soft core of players, no leaders, no clue what to do when faced with adversity, and mentally they're on the floor - I think these signings have been selected as much for what they'll do off the pitch as what they'll do on it.

Another difference is that there probably isn't much difference in quality but one we'll pay £10m for and the other we'll receive £3m for.

We should have tried for Chair or Hamer.

This is objectively false.

They might be similarly average on paper, I can accept that, but they're the complete opposite as players. A good majority of foxestalk have vastly misunderstood Praet the entire time he's been here, the amount of calls for him to play in the centre mid and replace someone like Tielemans is just maddening. He's not now and never has been a holding midfielder, a box to box midfielder or anyone else whose goal is either dictating the pace of the game or ball progression.

He's a straight up 100% attacking midfielder and occasional auxiliary winger. All of his instincts are about making vertical runs and receiving the ball in the attacking third, not getting it there to begin with. Winks on the other hand will sit in front of the defence and keep the ball moving. Probably the closest to Winks I can think of as a comparison for Leicester fans is Neil Lennon, who barely left the centre circle, just keeping the game flowing with constant short passes.

Not a big fan of his, but I will reserve judgement until I see him play for us. It's a bit of an unknown still how we will play and how all the pieces will fit together, so I'm happy to wait and see and hopefully be proved wrong.

We've gone from challenging the top 6 in the Premier League to relegation to the Championship in the blink of an eye, so it's difficult for us as emotionally invested fans to adjust to our new reality, but we have no choice. 12 months ago signing Winks would have been unthinkable but now it might be a very shrewd move. Hopefully Maresca and Glover are now pulling the transfer strings, otherwise the cretins that engineered our current situation will flush us even further down the pan!

Just looked it up and the piss poor fee for Maddison will make him the most expensive Championship player ever by a clear £15m..... beating the previous record paid for James Maddison.

Eh? Nathan Ake is the record at £45m. There's been plenty of deals since we signed Maddison for £25m that have exceeded that. Buendia £35m for example.

LeicestershireLive have spoken to football.london’s Tottenham Hotspur reporter Rob Guest to get the inside track on Winks’ strengths, weaknesses and how he could fit into Maresca’s Leicester City side.

Strengths

Rob Guest : “Winks' main strength is that he is technically very good on the ball and an intelligent passer, with former manager Mauricio Pochettino likening him to Xavi and Andres Iniesta in the past due to the qualities he possesses in his locker. Someone who is comfortable at turning and connecting the play when moving forward, Winks can be a real hit in the Leicester midfield, especially if they are going to play a possession-based game under Enzo Maresca.

“His experience in the Premier League, Champions League and on the international stage for England will also prove crucial as the Foxes look to regain their place in the Premier League at the first time of asking and he could well become a leader at Leicester because of that.

“His time at Sampdoria will have also have helped his game as he was a rare shining light for them as he tried to help keep them in Serie A.”

Weaknesses
RG : “Maybe something that he could improve on is his play off the ball. What has also maybe not helped his game in recent seasons is a troublesome ankle injury that has seen him miss games, Winks did go under the knife late last year to correct the problem during his Sampdoria loan spell and he made 19 successive starts after his debut, which demonstrates that the surgery was successful and has helped his game in the process.”

Best position
RG : “Winks will give Leicester plenty of options in midfield as he has taken up a number of roles throughout his career. Although he has played quite a bit in a deeper role in the past, the player has admitted previously that he considers himself as someone who can play as a No.8. As someone who is very good on the ball with an eye for a pass, playing as a No.8 would allow him the opportunity to really influence things further forward given his strengths.”

He's a completely different type of player to Praet as he's a No.6 and Praet spent most of his time on the wind or No.10 for us.

Also Praet would be a top player in the championship if he stayed....

My bad, source was applying a criteria to Ake that would make Maddison a premier league player still.

He has 2 goals and 3 assists in his entire league career. Bloke is deluded if he thinks he's a no.8.
