Castagne to Fulham

Recommended Posts

If this has real substance, it will improve our bargaining position with the Geordie Arabs, as it ‘should’ mean there is less cash pressure to give them Barnes at a discount.

Come on Rudders prove me wrong and get this done.

He seems to hit a sweet spot of decent fee and limited impact on current side which make him top of my sell list.

Same. It's not that he's a bad player but just one of those steady guys. He'd look decent in a top 4 chasing team as he did with us, just as he'd still only look decent in mid table championship team. Doesn't really elevate his performances above the competition.

Good signing for somebody for £15m because of his versatility and his ability to slot into a good team.

Can't help but feel this is splitting hairs (if true).

Just get him out the door for 12 and get some creativity in.

Ignoring the source, £15m is fair for him. Didn't we pay about that to sign him? And he's still a decent PL wing back. He's just not a RB, IMHO.

Just checked - £18.7m apparently. So if we sold for £12m we'd be making a significant loss on a player who has experience in the PL.

According to transfermarkt his current market value is €25m, even £15m is a significant loss...

It's LCFC HQ, of course it's bollocks

Someone in their bedroom at their Mum's house pretending to be ITK, waste of time unless they prove themselves consistently.

I could make up a few educated guesses and get a few right, I only take note of proper journalists.

28 in December and he's been here three years, his value will be no higher than it is today.

He's performed about par on expectation and price so £12m would be an okay return IMO especially as our MO appears to be letting players run their contracts out on recent evidence.

Making a loss on a player is likely after relegation and without a long list of suitors the team willing to bid can low ball. Unless we can magically drum up more demand then we don't have a lot of choice.

It's then down to the club, do they think keeping the player will help us get promoted and risk losing him for less next season. He is one of those that didn't look too bothered when we needed a bit of fight, maximise what you can and reinvest.

£6m loss after 3 years of playing for us isn’t awful business.

Yea, you have to keep this in mind as well. Key also being getting his wages off  too. Of course selling for less sucks but unless we can afford to keep and he wants to be here then we can't be picky with a player like him

The state of Fulham at the moment with their star striker Mitrovic refusing to play after being tapped up by the Saudis and now the manager being tapped up by them too - with all this uncertainty (particularly with the manager) I’d be surprised if Castagne went to them.

Lot of talk about us not getting prices for our players, sadly our players are either out of contract, have a year left, or will be playing in the Championship, after Premier league wages…..may I suggest we are not in the strongest negotiating position……and every other club knows that….

There's another way to look at it with Castagne though isn't there. A player's value is decided by a lot of factors and one of those is a club's willingness to release him.

Maybe we consider 15m to really, truly be the minimum we'd let Castagne go because the line about Maresca being keen is true. Maybe we have it in the budget to keep Castagne on the books and Maresca likes his versatility or really sees him as an option out wide. He was bobbins for us as a conventional fullback, there's no denying that, but as a wingback or an RM it's probably harsh to suggest he isn't a very solid top flight footballer.
