Well done to the club for listening. Still rather no clappers at all but at least you now have the option. I didn't expect them to drop the goal music either.

A side note - been said a lot but any tiny doubts you could have about VAR not wrecking the overall experience were dispelled yesterday. Knowing that you can't have that utter kack come along and ruin everything. It's the absolute worst of sanitised football. It's just so much better a spectacle without VAR.

I think we were pretty fortunate that there was nothing controversial in the match but it probably helped the ref knowing he has to make decisions without back up.

We will have things go for and against us this season but we will cope. It was a better spectacle all round and credit to all involved.

Since I have no life, I've e-mailed the club to thank them for getting rid of the goal music.

I'd rather there was none forever, but if the corporate drones do eventually decide to bring it back, I made the recommendation that they at least put a number of choices to fans for us to choose from - and an option to have none in any such poll. If we must have it, we can do much better than that saccharine, irrelevant trumpet pop. I made the point that a bit of fan engagement like that would go a long way to starting to make up for two poor seasons where the disconnect has been felt acutely.

Couple of other bits I mentioned:

  • New pre-match montage is nice. Seems a little more balanced, and most importantly they've edited out most of the James Maddison clips they shoehorned in there (no I didn't tell them that, but it's pretty obvious there's a lot less of him on there now). The video is clearly going nowhere, so thought I'd throw them a bit of praise where due. lol
  • Half-time entertainment is non-existent. It would be nice to engage fans where possible with some stuff like we used to have - relay races, crossbar challenge, perhaps wheeling out some past players for an interview on the centre circle. I figure that's something they don't have a clue about going forward, since The Birch led on it, but it can't be that hard now we're post-covid to get 5 minutes of something in there.

Didn't bother mentioning the clappers. They aren't for me, but it doesn't really bother me if people do use them. Rather that than stony silence for 90 minutes from the East and West stands. And I honestly expect they'll be gradually phased out anyway after the club realises less and less people are actually using them now.

In recent times, I had felt the club were looking to become more engaged in supporter feedback but the continuation of goal music and clappers (without any compromise or alternative solution) gives off an air of stubbornness to me. It’s why I said the matchday experience needs to be more balanced, because currently it makes a fair amount of the fanbase feel disillusioned with the club.

Again from what I posted previously, I was doubtful but credit where it's due - the club seem to have taken feedback on board.

There'll definitely be something that goes against us that VAR would've prevented but I consider that the lesser of two evils quite substantially to be honest.
