Roberto Vitiello - new Assistant Manager?

Recommended Posts

It's been so long now since Vitiello was mooted as Assistant Manager, I wonder whether Visa issues are going to be insurmountable? Either we're still hammering it out, or we're going to move on elsewhere?

I see Steve Round has left Arsenal today, after 4 years as Arteta's Assistant - perhaps the 'Man City link' might bring him to us (I know Maresca didn't work with Arteta, but I bet Pep might help 'oil the wheels' between the two?).

It's wishful thinking in my opinion. Don't think you leave Arsenal to take such a step back/down to become assistant here. If we were still in the PL, then maybe.

But I think he'll comfortably find a job somewhere else at top level.

Not sure Pep knows Round either? He  was part of Moyes’ coaching staff at Everton when Arteta was a player there

Conflicting evidence but it seemed that Pearson had run out of ideas and didn't know how, or couldn't, turn it around. He'd lost the plot (Ostrichgate etc) but something was the catalyst for those last 9 games. It does seem that senior players took matters into their own hands and Cambiasso was a leading voice.

Maybe a bit pedantic so apologies, but Ostrichgate happened part way through the great escape run did it not (after the 1-3 at home to Chelsea)? It was the only game we lost in that last 9. So wherever the spark or catalyst came from, it was a way before that as we had won 4 on the bounce. Still unsure where that rant came from mind :dunno:

Why the fixation on Round? The whole point of my comments was, with the delays on Vitiello, perhaps we are looking elsewhere now. Round leaving Arsenal, could be just one of many, possible and suitable, alternatives.

What are peoples views on the Vitiello situation - and if he's not coming - are there any other good candidates?

We're at least 2, if not 3 coaches short right now (AM, 1st team coach, set piece coach) and that's not even taking in to account the norm for Italian managers who tend to surround themselves with many more.

Nicola Caccia has worked with Maresca before, he's got good experience and might be the perfect assistant for him if Vitiello doesn't get his WP.

Didn’t Someone at a press conference challenge Nigel about team selection ,which sent him off on one ?

Not sure you need one of those if your coaches are competent.

Isn't Danny Walker 1st team coach?

Ric the set up now is more or less no different to how it's always been with us. We only recently went down the set piece coach route and he was on a short term contract. Walker is 1st team coach, when did we last have more than 1 of them?

To me the current set up (minus the assistant manager) looks like a standard LCFC set up.

Sadler and Toure were 1st team coaches

Chris Davies assistant manager

So we're 2 down and 3 if we need a set piece coach, which many clubs have.

Not particularly fixated on Round myself, just pointing out Round has never worked at Man City/with Pep given you said “I see Steve Round has left Arsenal today, after 4 years as Arteta's Assistant - perhaps the 'Man City link' might bring him to us”

I don't disagree, I just think the current set up is no different to 'standard leicester' which we all know we like sticking with! lol

I'd argue as well that Toure was never replaced and pre Brendan we never had more than one first team coach. So just reverting to type.

With you though, would like to see another 1st team coach who specialises in something (perhaps a defensive coach) and then a set piece coach or another coach with a specialism.

I'm guessing by giving Enzo an extra fitness coach they've decided that takes up the space of another 1st team coach.

Yeah it was what he perceived to be a stupid question. I mean in terms of pressure, after 4 wins on the bounce you’d have thought he’d be pretty relaxed so it was odd that he didn’t just let it slide!

Don't buy this need for every man and his dog lining up on the side lines. Knudsen was a luxury and to be fair we were still crap all season at set plays really.

A strong assistant is all he needs now in my opinion.

We went from looking like conceding from every set piece to being reasonably comfortable, so there

was a definite improvement.

This is an nostalgia overdrive for me. Fifa 2012-2016 Palermo was my go-to <5* team online. Sorrentino in goal, Vitiello in defence, Maresca in midfield, Vasquez, and a young Dybala. Abel Hernandez I think too who was rapid all topped off with big Sol Bamba! who was as much as a bomb scare in-game as he was in blue lol

One of my favourite teams back in the day owned by one of the most corrupt men in football.
