Coventry Home First Game of the Season

We should be winning given our relative massive financial advantage over Coventry.

I'm predicting a loss because despite that massive advantage unless we name about 8 defenders in the starting line up, our squad is well off it.

Bare in mind in a game against Blackburn where we badly needed a win for confidence we got pretty much steamrollered by them.

  • Poor pre season prep
  • Almost non-existent recruitment in areas we have know we would need players
  • New style of play
  • Players who have an eye on the door who will have to play
  • Key player (Ricardo) is very injury prone

There are barely any positives to hang onto for me.

Our best hope is a 0-0, but we'll likely be masters of our own downfall whilst trying to get used to our new system. I can see Simms bagging a couple and some of our fans and the media getting a massive reality check.

A loss might actually get the board the pull their fingers out and sack the cretin who is embarrassing us or at least encourage him to go and do his actual job.

Feels very much like the same complacency from last season is sitting with the board and more concerningly our fan base.

I'll be amazed if we're top 10 come September 1st. Fully expect us to improve as the season goes on though.

In terms of lowering expectations though. I want to add, that tor a club of our size and financial power relative to other clubs though, anything but top 2 for this club this season is a failure and under performance.

Why would we bear this in mind?  We have an almost entirely different core of players, entirely different back room staff, we're playing an entirely different system and it's not in a cup game, neither are we infested by a manager and players who don't want to be there, nor are we premiership scalp against a team with nothing to lose.  It's an entirely redundant comparison.

...unless Praet is injured or an imminent transfer is in the offing, he needs to take the Ndidi role!!!

His (Ndidi) distribution is poor, he will put us in so much trouble during the transition and like the Liverpool game it will cost us a goal. There is a moment of indecision that comes with him and he needs to be decisive in attacking positions. A natural attacking CM would have taken the shot when he was put clean through, you could see he was looking for support in that instance. Twice he had the opportunity to play someone in on goal and in both situations, the pass was either under-hit (in the first half) or not where it should be (second half).

There is that risk with any player, praet definitely included.  It's also worth noting that whilst we didn't stop every liverpool transition, we actually stopped (a worryingly) large amount.  Coventry's attack is, of course, far less likely to punish us than Livepool's

Hamer for Coventry is the X Factor in this game. We don’t have anyone to compete. I think it will be tight but the special player on the pitch will win it.

Coventry fans are expecting him to go back to Holland

We’ve got the quality there to get a result, they just need to apply themselves and not be *****.

Im torn about Timmy and Praet, but on their day they’re too good for the championship, Mavididi might offer some raw energy which can give us a lift.

We just haven’t a clue what to expect….. because we’ve nothing really to go on. The pre-season has been a complete none starter…..

Few things concern me;

Fitness…. They may be fit, but are they match fit?

Cohesion in play, will we have any? After the Liverpool showing, there are concerns this isn’t as polished as we would like, or was that a team what Enzo wanted to get a final view of some players before making a decision on them. That is what I felt about it, to see if a few of those players are capable….

Starting 11, have we seen, the starting 11 yet? Or anything close to it? Or has this just been a series of experiments?

Do they give a shit? Especially the players who were expected to leave, are they going to bother to turn up, or are we going to witness a few lads just ambling around wallowing on their own misery.

There’s lots of questions that need answers, and it just seems a bit of a risk to have these answered on the first game.

Hmmm, I'm not so sure about that - the only real selling point for, say, Parker, was that he has been successful at this level - so, had he come in and we lost the first few games, or were awful, there'd be no hiding place or excuses.  With Maresca half our fans would proabbly just nod and mumble 'early days...',  the other half would just say ' told you so'.

Yes, but if we're being sensible, anyone with any proven pedigree in any given profession is likelier to be given more faith and patience than a relative novice. They should be, as a rule. A new manager will always have more to prove than a proven manager. If Maresca, or Andy King being granted his first managerial foray, or whoever else, were to look out of their depth early on, the obvious question would be whether they had anything like the credentials to do the job. If the same happened to Parker, Benitez, Pearson or Smith, we already know that, given the right circumstances, they can be successful. The question then is 'what are we doing wrong?'

None of that means that Enzo is an inferior manager at all. I have a feeling that, over time, questions will be asked of Parker in the same way that they were later asked of Aidy Boothroyd, Phil Brown, Owen Coyle and many others who initially excelled at this level. And I'm also very hopeful about Enzo, if we can show reasonable patience. But to suggest that pedigree counts for nowt is wide of the mark too.

So you go to football because it has some hotel, casino and arena attached to it. Its ****ing more soulless than our place and that takes some doing. Its in the fuxking arse end of nowhere. With no redeeming features.

Absolutely no way I'm having that place is better than ours. They were better of at Highfield Rd.

It has steeper banking than ours so much better views. I despise the ****ers but can’t deny that some aspects of their ground are better than ours.

I think we are in for a rude shock, unless we can secure at least 2-4 new signings we may well not get promoted. The midfield really needs strengthening , we need a class 10 , to create for the team . But again the same as the last couple of seasons we ignore the midfield, it will cost us again

KDH will dominate this league.

My opinion, Hamer would be an average, bottom end of the table Premier League midfielder.

...Hamer would bring in a lot of what we have been missing, he and KDH would stop this club from falling apart when under pressure!!!

Their metronomic style of play will keep or tempo high and would be overwhelming for the opposition.

...in this system a #10 is not really needed, more than 1 #8 would be utilised, but a creative CM is very useful!!!

Madders would have had a field day in this league but that’s all in the recent past now. I agree we do need another creative MF to connect all the dots. We will know soon enough how much we miss the key players that have been sold.

It's a great time for them to play us. They'll be up for it, we will be undercooked and fragile with some players who don't want to be here.

We are better than them, and if we play as we can we will win comfortably but there is more to it than that.

With all due respect, we’re playing Coventry at home not Man City away.

It’s not just the players that need a mindset change, it’s a lot of our fans as well.

The place is becoming depressing, too many trying to read into every little decision taken by the club and generating storylines in their mind that have little to no substance. I can’t wait for the season to start, I’m feeling optimistic and I’m limiting my time on here so these lot don’t bring me down with them lol
