What's Coventry like as a city?

Have never been personally.

Basically a city stuck in the past, if you want to know what a city looked in the 1970's visit Cov. It's city that's had little development over the years, just left to rot. Stadium is about 4 or 5 miles out of the city and much closer to Bedworth. In fact most footy fans when away at Cov, drink in both Nuneaton and Bedworth as is it's closer and easier.

Got a cathedral that's half old and half new thanks to the Luftwaffe. A 60s decaying shopping centre with a naked bint on a horse. Ghost Town.

But on the other hand, it's also home to Binley Mega Chippy, and was the location for the Nativity film series.

We've got our work cut out, the buggers are riding high these days.

So you go to football because it has some hotel, casino and arena attached to it. Its ****ing more soulless than our place and that takes some doing. Its in the fuxking arse end of nowhere. With no redeeming features.

Absolutely no way I'm having that place is better than ours. They were better of at Highfield Rd.

Went there for a gig recently and its definetley a better stadium then ours. Im not talking atmosphere or the area im talking the actual stadium. One cost 100 million to build and one cost 30. One can hold gigs because the structures strong enough to hold it and one cant because it was made on a shoestring

Oooooh Rotherham local to me.... Hopefully I'll be able to get some away tickets this year (the ONLY positive about this flipping season 🤬)

Unfortunately I'm expecting new grounds early in the season to be still hard to get. It'll be the midwinter ones if we're not doing well that are properly available

Ive not been to Coventry since our away game against them when Sven was in charge. I think Vassell got himself sent off if I remember correctly

1-1 first away if the season IIRC and even got my boat in Mondays Mercury.:D

As for the poster saying their ground’s better than KP, cloud cookoo land pal.

Last time I was in the city it was still grey and concrete due to being flattened in the war.

We need to be up for this and ready to go.

The KP stadium can hold gigs but I assume choose not too. I belive some upgrading work was completed prior to the weekend of Kasabian shows in 2016. Magical nights.

And they used to sing "You're just a small town in England" to us.

That might be true but I always thought that it was hilarious coming from that sophisticated cultural metropolis that is Coventry.  Basically just a suburb of Birmingham.

If someone had told me this time last year that we start this season level with Cov I would have laughed.  I had forgotten what a Coventry even was.  We were light years ahead of them just five minutes ago and yet I can see them being well up for giving us a bloody nose.  Any hangovers from last year or feeling sorry for ourselves and this will be a very ugly away win.

It can at a much reduced capacity around 18k. Kasabian never reached stadium tours so it was fine for a band of their size in their home city, but the whole point of stadium tours is being the next step up from arenas. If you're playing to 18k, you might as well do it in arena that doesn't need all the preparation the KP did for that.

Coventry made crucial errors in its post war rebuilding but was once the third biggest city in England. In the seventies its manufacturing industries dwarfed Leicester's and the pay was vastly better , I know I worked there for years. Town planners and Thatcher brought it to a poor state in the nineties but there are signs of recovery. This has nothing to do with football of course but given our gutted team , I expect a tough match.

And yet Leicester is 12th biggest city in UK, Coventry is 14th.

It never bothered me that we were called a small town in England, Leicester is the definition of provincial mediocrity, I just found it funny that the only club that seened to sing it to us was a slightly smaller town in England.

edit - I also expect a tough match.

When we came up we were almost relegated first season back , won the PL and were then heading for relegation again the next season . I believe this club is normally a mid table premiership club but too many are not satisfied with that.

.. why should anyone be happy with that!!!

Just being happy in mid table isn't achieving,  it is existing, what is aspirational about that?

I despise Coventry City... but i like the city of Coventry, its a nice place to visit.

Are you sure?

This sounds like the opinion of someone that lives just about as far away from Coventry as it is possible to be,

Really?? There's not much nice about Coventry. I worked over in Cov for 3 years, it's dull and miserable. Even the locals are dull and miserable. I swear that every day I would get to the bottom of the M69 and a grey cloud would descend from the skies, even on the brightest of summer's days.

Being from Leicester there's not much to be proud about that state of our city, but if there's any city that we can call a s**thole then it's Coventry
