That is horrendous.

Rodgers and his staff sat down to discuss the rest of the season at their Abu Dhabi training camp in November and there wasn’t any fear of relegation. They had climbed to 13th and were looking up the table, not down.

“We were talking about making the top eight. I’m still scratching my head about how we didn’t stay in the league. I didn’t see it coming at all until Brendan went and I’m thinking ‘We are running out of games here and nothing is changing’.”

The owners probably thought the same head in the sand.

How could you start that season with 6 losses in a row, bringing barely anyone in while selling your best CB, losing Kasper, all while having a proportion of our players contracts about to end and not think that we were in trouble?

Maybe Stowelly kept his head down and did his work with keepers while trying to keep morale up without thinking. We were most definitely, from the beginning of last season, under serious threat of relegation.

Maybe that was the message they were getting. Not being football savvy, they deferred to those they thought were.

Agreed. The owners probably thought that the likes of Stowell, and Sadler would surely after all those years in the game and with the the club, come to them with alarm bells ringing and told them how bad it was and where we were heading. If they had they would probably still be in a job. Instead, they stuck with the idiot Rodgers and hoped to see the season out. They got what they deserved and the club is better off without them.

'didn't see it coming until Brendan went'

Nah I can't get over that sentence lol lol

Fair play for being that honest, but it's also very fvcking naive and stupid in that moment.

Top/Rudkin then entrusted him to be part of the team to change fortunes, despite that delusion?

Ridiculous on various levels.

Rodgers in his last few weeks was talking about the relegation scrap being a “coaching challenge”. They (the whole club) really thought they were too good to go down. Disgraceful.

Yeah it was all to protect himself if we did go down but to make himself look a hero if we stayed up.

Rodgers ever comes back here he'll get monumental stick when I suspect he thinks he'll be given a heroes welcome, such is the size of his ego.

Tbf at the time of the break, they wouldn’t be wrong looking towards the top eight.

But that the realisation took place that late into the season is horrific

Between game week 8 and 22, we got 23 points at an average of 1.53 a game which over a season would've put us 10th. The problem was we went through two appalling runs in the first and third quarters of the season, which we had no answers for, which to me indicated a mentality thing.

Most goals conceded in a premier  league history over that period.
That little winning run prior to the World Cup was unfortunate in the end, as it bought the little weasel more time.

This is usually the case, people on the outside can see the winds changing, but those involved are usually blind to what is happening.  We have all probably experienced it with family, friends, or through work with a boss or colleague, but it still beggars belief that they even though top eight was possible.

I agree but Newcastle at home should have brought everyone down to earth with a bump. We never looked like giving them a game.

It's not up to Stowell to see what's up, that's down to Rudkin, Top and co

Stowell always came over as Aloof and Deluded, no surprise to read that he didn't believe we were in the sh1t until we were waist deep in it.

I met him once and he was not the sharpish tool in the draw.

His specialist subject in a pub quiz is likely to be goalie gloves and Leicester City goalies from 2007 to 2023 possibly and that would be about it

I wouldn’t be surprised if there were still those at the club that’ll be confused to see Coventry show up on opening day, rather than Chelsea.

Complacency was a huge part of our downfall last season and I’m not entirely convinced it’s gone away. It’ll be “well we’re a premier league club so of course we’ll get promoted” when we’re hanging around mid-table in January.

Tbf there were alot of fans who had similar opinions, that we "were too good to go down", "there are worse teams than us", everything was fine and dandy, e.t.c.

I genuinely believe those who had concerns were in the minority until quite late on, until it was arguably too late.

A lot of fans did, yes. But fans can be optimistic.

These coaches were highly, highly paid individuals. To not look at every possible outcome is absolutely unacceptable
