Leicester City Football Club can confirm the addition of Willy Caballero to manager Enzo Maresca’s backroom team as preparations continue for the new 2023/24 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

- Willy Caballero becomes fifth addition to Enzo Maresca’s backroom staff

- The former goalkeeper joins as Assistant Manager

- He has previously played for Manchester City, Chelsea and Southampton

The 41-year-old Argentine arrives as Assistant Manager following an 18-month spell as a player with Southampton. He brings with him a wealth of experience from a playing career that has spanned over two decades across Argentina, Spain and England.

Caballero becomes the fifth addition to the manager’s backroom team following the appointment of First Team Coach Danny Walker, Goalkeeper Coach Michele De Bernardin, Fitness Coach Marcos Alvarez and Analyst Javier Molina Caballero.

The former goalkeeper and Argentina international has enjoyed a successful playing career in England, representing Manchester City for three seasons from 2014 and spending four campaigns with Chelsea. During those spells he picked up League Cup, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League winners’ medals.

Interesting. There seems to be a mix of youth and experience in the coaching staff beneath Maresca and Caballero, but the two main guys are very inexperienced in the roles they have.

Caballero's career in the game will certainly be very well respected by the players, but if the coaching doesn't come up to scratch that respect can soon erode. But his endorsement of Maresca's methods should go a long way.

Maybe this is just the right time for Maresca to get a job as the main man. And, at 41, who's to say that Caballero hasn't actually been leading sessions for years already?

Maybe the both of them are ready now and they'll shine as a team.

Come on you beautiful ball-playing, tiki taka, total football Foxes :scarf::scarf::scarf:
