Vestergaard

I know it's one player but it shows in a nutshell why they need to go. 3 years for a guy who's clearly not worth it (debate if 1 year is even worth it) and more crazily, done when there's no new manager in post.

Gross mismanagement

It's absolutely ridiculous. You're right - in a nutshell it sums them up. Even in this sort of financial situation they're handing out a contract like that to a player who has a pretty high chance of being back on the scrapheap within months.

Total mismanagement, but then what do you expect from this hierarchy. They've proven time and time again they'll do it and they've proven nobody will be accountable for it.

Absolute joke.

No resale value, no idea if the new manager will rate him. I get that he was rated by Maresca and him leaving was unexpected but they rushed in for no reason.

Very surprised it’s a 3-year deal.

The ideal for us would have been a 1-year extension to tide us over in our first year back in the Prem and reassess how he gets on. We don’t have the funds to buy a Vestergaard replacement and strengthen the squad fully. Makes sense he stays.

Vestergaard is never signing a 1-year deal though, so I was expecting a 2-year announcement as some sort of middle ground.

3 years - unless he’s taken a significant pay cut from his old PL wage - is a a massive gamble, especially given his previous Premier League form for us and Enzo’s departure.

genuine question for some, would you prefer we massively overpaid for 1 year, overpaid for 2 or got him down to a sustainable wage and spread it out over 3?

vestergarde knows this was his last decent deal in football, he would want 3 years from everyone.

If the club have got him down to 40k at 3 years then that might well be better for our situation than 70k for 1 year.

These figures are random but probably fairly accurate based on what we pay atm.

I’m not sure we have. The reality is we don’t have much to spend if we hope to comply with PSR. Another player gone, is another player to get, and it’s cheaper to keep what you have, plus it’s better for PSR not putting fees on the books.

I’m fairly sure they will be aware it’s not ideal, but we are working to the situation we are in financially, with a squad that’s losing lots of players.

And in a season that’s monumentally difficult to stay up, we are likely to have an eye on the fact we could go back down.

You have to wonder why? It not like the defenders were covering themselves in glory match after match

he won’t be getting 5mins to wander with the ball at a snails paces like in the championship

How long did he have left on his previous deal? Make it a 1 year deal and we possibly miss out on any transfer fee. Let him go and we have to find a replacement, when we’ve just been promoted therefore commanding a PL salary for his replacement (on at least a 3 year deal). We’re going to be shopping in the bargain bucket anyway so who’s to say we get in anyone better? Just a reflection of the situation we are in and most likely a risk based decision with any alternative options we have available.

We have Coady, Faes, Souttar and Nelson. We do not need bodies at centre back. It's an absolutely mental decision.

Would he have rejected a 2 year? Doubt it so why 3? What with all that intense competition for his signature. Or is it just making sure we have enough players already on the books to get through the next 3 transfer embargo’s! Three years ?

:dunno: :jawdrop:

Maybe he already did? How would you know?

It's literally the position we're most well stocked in aside from goalkeeper. Hilarious. Add to this we have Thomas and Kristiansen returning.

Laughable, genuinely laughable.

Spent 2 years unsuccessfully trying to get rid of him.

He has 1 half decent season in the championship.

Have a new 3 year contract !

Absolute madness, sums up how we have got into a mess with FFP

Coady not fancied this season and Vestergaard proven not up to scratch at the top level. Two players on long deals commanding high wages leaving us with little wiggle room for FFP. We will get liquidated for this stupidity.
