Abdul Fatawu Signs

Interesting being a winger nowadays,

me being a footballing dinosaur I was brought up on wingers providing crosses for a big target man to nod in, those days seem to be gone and now the expectation seem to be for a winger to jink into the box and put low passes in for midfield runners to get a shot in on goal.
This is proving to be a lot more difficult with congested defences and misfiring strikers.

“I’d be happy to stay” – Loanee wants permanent transfer to Leicester City, has ‘different feeling’ at the club
By Lucas Sposito -4th December 2023

Leicester City winger Issahaku Fatawu is this week featured in an interview with South African magazine Soccer Laduma.

The 19-year-old, who’s loaned to the club by Sporting, had a long and interesting conversation about the Lions, the Foxes and the Ghanian national team.

First speaking about his departure from the Lisbon side, Fatawu claimed that manager Ruben Amorim didn’t really have plans for him there, and that’s why he ended up at Leicester City last summer.

“Yeah, that’s what I mean. It’s about how he wants me to play in relation to how he wants the team to play. I think what he wants from me now is to go somewhere to play more minutes and get better,” Fatawu told Soccer Laduma.

The winger seems to be quite happy at Leicester City, though, feels comfortable at the club and is looking forward to staying there following potential promotion to the Premier League.
“Yeah, Premier League is my dream league, so I’m hoping to play there and since arriving, Leicester has given me a different feeling. How the people here have been has given me more confidence to stay here. For me, I’d be happy to stay at Leicester because I know and believe in the team, that we will qualify for the Premier League, so I’ll be happy to stay here.”

Since joining Leicester City, Fatawu has had two goals and one assist in 16 appearances.

Sporting recently released a financial report with many details of their recent transfers. There, it was revealed that the Foxes paid €750k to sign the winger on a loan spell.

At the end of the season, Leicester City will have the chance to sign him permanently for €17m. That clause becomes obligatory in case of promotion to the Premier League.

Pay the £17m and get him signed

great player especially at this level , let’s see next season if / when we’re back in the P.L

Yeah that's my opinion too. I get Diego Jota at Wolves vibes where he was an outstanding talent at a midtable club.

There's a lot more Fatawu can add to his game, and that is the terrifying thing! When he's the finished article, him cutting onto his left foot will be hitting the back of the net consistently. I don't think there was much wrong for the pass he made for Ndidi, who should have hit that with his left foot.

Mavididi had a good game today with two goals, winning the penalty for himself. But you can see his ceiling already and for him it's more about consistency. With Fatawu under the right coach, he joins Mahrez and Barnes as a winger who leaves for a large sum of money. And I expect it to be more like the Mahrez fee than the Barnes one, because he's got way more in his locker than Harvey did.

I also don't expect him to get found out in the Premier League because he's fast, strong and skilful. His decision-making could be better, but it's not terminal like Adama Traore or Demarai Gray.

More than anything he comes across as a really likable lad too. He put in a great challenge in our box to stop a shot, and worked hard all game long. Mavididi comes across as the stroppy one, Fatawu has more "your lovable younger brother who just happens to be brilliant at football" vibes.

I agree with all of this although I think he should have taken the shot yesterday rather than pass to ndidi who I thought was offside. That sort of decision making does come with age and maturity. The game against Leeds made my mind up. We were right at the front when he chipped the ball over the Leeds player ran though and hit the cross bar. I turned to the missus and said we have got to get this lad signed up.

I think we are watching a superstar develop. Presuming promoted, we take our option, but i don't think he will be with us when hes 22. He's destined for one of the big 6. I do think with him and Mads we have 2 potential big transfer fees on our hands.

It’s an obligation and not an option I think?

yep…. Him and Mads have the highest potential ceiling in the current squad I’d say…. Would love to see maybe Alves and Nelson join them too
