Unfortunately our fans have been spoilt with success. To say winning an FA cup and a community shield isn’t worthy of a positive legacy, shows the quality of our fan base.

Because the legacy has to be positive. He left the club in a worse shape than he found it, and our rapid decline was the most shocking of any team in PL history. So it's understandable that some fans can't stomach such fond memories of him.

 

I loved the first few years and in time I'll be able to gain something more than I can now but it will very much depend on how we bounce back.

I don’t know… see I think Rodgers lasting legacy amongst fans (or the lack of it) may ultimately come down to a lack of class.

 

For comparison, consider Ranieri who will never be forgotten and always be fondly remembered, because ultimately the guy is genuine and a class above.

 

Rodgers on the other hand has always had that used car salesman / estate agent type feel in terms of personality.

 

In fact when you look at other much loved managers in our history - the likes of O’Neill, Adams, Pearson - many not half as successful, you can start to understand this more. 

 

Perhaps the irony is that despite his love of his teams having this particular characteristic, Rodgers himself is severely lacking in character - making him a difficult person to warm to, which will always have an impact on how people judge his level of success.

Surely a legacy means what was achieved has a long term impact, in Rodgers' case it didn't, he achieved some very good results but ultimately undid it all and left us worse off. Compared to what Pearson did, the set up put together under him lead to benefits for the next regime.

Absolutely this. To say we as a fan-base should just be grateful for the cup successes and ignore the abysmal decline and everything that surrounded it is ludicrous.

I'd agrue it was the clubs fault, most manager had a shelf life of 2.5 years.

 

They should have moved him on summer after we finish 8th, there was enough indicators that he'd had enough and it had gone stale.

The other thing with Rodgers is the shite that he came out with in the media last season. 

 

He was in damage limitation mode last season because he knew he was in trouble. The shocking mismanagement of the team is one thing which is bad enough as it is, but the lack of contrition and accountability, and the antagonism of the club was in some ways for me more frustrating than us being shit.

When we started last season so badly, Rodgers had to go.  After three games.  Then after 4 games etc.  Until game 8.  Then he had to go after the World Cup.  The decline was painful.

 

But he is a legend.  The FA Cup win.

Prior to the FA Cup win, he had managed to get us to advanced stages in both domestic cups before pissing away chances - albeit against strong opposition - with what felt like negative, uninspired tactics.

 

He did similar in Europe - we were disappointing against Slavia Prague bowing out in the early knockout stages the first year, and then failed to get through the Europa League group stage the following year.

 

Getting to a Semi-Final of the ‘unknown’ consolation European competition that followed may seem to some a solid performance overall in the end.

 

And yet, I remember feeling deeply disappointed with our home performance against Roma and in particular with Rodgers for not trying to secure an advantage at home whilst we were on top given how difficult the return leg would be.

 

We then have to consider how we got to these European competitions… and how it could have been a completely different story if we had held our never when out in front… not once, but twice! 

We should have been playing on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s not Thursday’s - with Rodgers selecting Ryan Bennett 5 times too many for the first of those collapses.

 

That similar has happened for Rodgers when at Liverpool is curious - but could also be a coincidence - you may draw you’re own conclusions there.

 

And yet when it comes to the main competition he did with us - The FA Cup - it is ironic because this is the one situation where it felt like the team didn’t play with cowardliness - especially when it came to the final. 
 

Every player to a man stood toe to toe, looking to trade punches with the opposition, we looked to attack - something that had been anathema to Rodgers normal approach in these type of situations. 
 

It therefore leaves me in a huge quandary in terms of Rodgers time at the club.

 

God knows we were ****ing horrible under Puel and that Rodgers managed to get us on track and heading in the right general direction to begin with.

 

And yet, when it came to the business end, the moments that separate the good from the great, he seemed so staggeringly lacking of competence on so many occasions that I think; yeah, he did some good things for the club, I can’t deny that…

 

… but he could have done so much more! 
 

And that includes falling on his sword when he knew he’d lost the motivation for our job.

That Villa team we lost too over two legs wasn’t strong opposition though

 

Genuine piss poor side that barely stayed up whilst we were top 4 in the league at the time

 

We played like complete cowards in the first league in particular 

 

Also made even worse by the fact we hammered them in the league twice that season

That's forgetting the fact that two of those European finishes happened after two of the worst bottles in our club's history. 14 points we had on 5th place Man United in 19/20 with around 13 games to go and we collapsed spectacularly. The real test of a manager is how they respond to when things go pear shaped and Rodgers failed in that regard. Look at the gap to Southampton and imagine us finishing below them at the end of the season (if the season only had 12 games left), that's how bad it was.

I stopped watching for months. Couldn't even enjoy it when we scored a goal as there was only the sinking feeling that we wouldn't hold on to it. Still traumatised from that Spurs game.
