In some ways I think Enzo ball is easier away than it is at home. Norwich had to come at us. That plays into our style.

Really feels like something special is happening again. Looking at the lads at the end of that everyone was pleased for one another and all looked really together and happy to be here. Reminiscent of the bond and energy the team had in 15/16 and the successful years after that. Certainly something we’ve missed in the last couple of years.

We look a team again, that's the main takeaway, and massive credit to Maresca for making that so evident so quickly.

 

2nd half was scrappy, but never felt under huge pressure, even when Norwich started to get a head of steam. We didn't make good enough decisions in the final third which could have put the game to bed earlier, if that starts clicking we will be a formidable outfit.

 

Sutton gushing over KDH, but Winks was imperious.

Tough game but our class shone through. Hermansen is different class and will end up at the very top. Defence was good again, impressed with all the back 4 and Winks is also a class above this level. Add in the disgusting bench we had and like Chris Sutton said "it's not fair". We look far too good for this division and we haven't even got out of 2nd gear yet as the players aren't fully up to speed with Enzos tactics but you can see improvements each game. After the disappointment against Hull, to come back with back to back away wins at Southampton and Norwich is fantastic. Feel like we are finally getting our club back after Rodgers tried to rob it from us.

Think Doyle deserves a shout out tonight, our best defender and really put his body on the line a fair few times. Best game for us so far and probably our MOTM - Sky gave it Hermansen for that brilliant save, but he almost cost us too - crossbar saved his blushes!

Another pretty ugly win, but a good shift. It's such a good feeling seeing an academy lad come in and bagging goals for fun - who had Kasey McAteer top scorer on their 23/24 Bingo Card?

The defence was quality. Rode our luck a bit but they got their positioning bang on and put their bodies on the line several times. It was spirited under tough conditions. Resilience in abundance! 

 

Winks was brilliant just marshaling they defence on the ball. So calm and composed. I don't even think he lost the ball once? Superb considering how well Norwich pressed high up. 

 

In the end we just ended up tiring Norwich out and ideally would have got the 2nd goal much earlier. Still need to improve in and around the box, think we were a bit sloppy at times. But it goes to show how clinical we could be and actually humiliate teams.

Steely under pressure, a clear plan, and a bloody good goalkeeper.

 

It might be early for this kind of comment but I'd be surprised if we don't go straight back up.

Really great performance. Battled, fought, headed everything, and when it mattered we had that extra bit of quality. A professional away performance. We are getting better all the time. 

 

One negative was Casadei, who was very disappointing. KDH and Ndidi instantly made us better. 

Callum Doyle was outstanding tonight aswell after a couple of dodgy games, a great defensive performance from him, flung himself in front of everything and was composed on the ball. Chuffed with that.

 

One a side note, their fans are whiny cvnts aren't they?? Clearest pen you will ever see and booing and barrating the red all game.

This is a breath of fresh air. New players, new belief. Would rather be watching this than struggling in the Prem. Just hope Everton go down.

Some Notes from both halves.

 

First Half:

• I've been quite impressed by Norwich. Their change of shape, their playing out from the back, their use of Sara. Given the resources available to both teams, they play good stuff and structurally are the best team we've played against so far.
• Faes was chasing Barnes quite high up the pitch. He's in the team to deal with him as he's a physical player. Called this one in the tactics thread!
• What I didn't call was Hamza coming in and playing close attention to Jonathan Rowe, who has been one of the best players in the division so far. Hamza has been superb! Both on and off the ball and has dealt with Rowe very well.
• Right and Left footed 8's are playing on different sides than I would expect, which must be intentional. I think it's because we are exploiting the slow pace of their CBs, so Nacho draws them out and they run in behind and can cut in on their stronger foot via bending their runs. We have almost pulled it off a few times.
• Yunus I have been very impressed with. Great football brain and first touch. We brought him as a winger, but is he the Turkish Championship version of Bernardo? You heard it here first.
• Casadei a bit off it. Not horrible, but expected a bit better, the move has broken down the most going to him, or he's given fouls away.
• Kasey McAteer I love, love, love! He's everywhere! First touch has let him down a bit, but he's making his chances and terrifying their fullback.
• Mavididi started off slow, but looked a class above by the end of the half.
• Mads Hermansen is a seriously good keeper. His distribution is so good. Some of his kicks to Nacho are so effective.
• Even before the goal I felt we were playing well. Maybe 10% worse than against Southampton, but only because of the number of changes.
• Maresca chose more physical players for this game, and it's worked. We have dealt with their muscle and in fact riled THEM up. Both CBs and Barnes on yellows? When Vardy and Fatawu come on they are going to be in big trouble.

 

Second Half:

 

• Hamza did so well, they replaced Rowe
  • Placheta was more direct and caused trouble
• Our playing out from the back was very good
• Mads superb before giveaway. Got a bit flustered afterwards but still I think he’s class
• KDH / Wilf because we lost control
• Ndidi pressed high straight away, which was missing
• Can you do it on a wet and windy away day at Norwich?!
• Norwich go 442 at 67 mins
• Wrong footed 8s even when new 8s came on
• 442 made the game chaotic. We made chances but lost control. Too end to end.
• Bit shit in final third. Vardy!!?! McAteer!
• Fatawu played on the other side but made things happen
• Norwich too slow passing. Leicester it’s fast
• At 2-0 it was game over, we had total control.
