Words you never heard at football.

Recommended Posts

Just thinking about some of the language we now use and didnt back in time.

Couple of obvious ones-transition and the final third then we have the deep and low block, false number nines and inverted full backs.

But we still talk about number 8s and 10s

Im sure you will have some more( and I not talking personal stuff just general new terms)

The introduction of a generic term given the rise and increased significance/recognition of Women's football.

Same as now using assistant referee. No problem with it.

Me and my son were musing yesterday, that a phrase you never hear is 'I support Wolves'.  On any holiday i have been on i don't think i have ever bumped into a Wolves fan.

Good point. Never met a Wolves fan. Not once in 41yrs.

Nor a Stoke fan.

I have a good friend that supports Stoke. He's terrified at the prospect of meeting a superior Port Vale next season.

It's been pretty shit for them since Mark Hughes ****ed it all up.

I've never met a fan of Liverpo... Oh wait, a genuine fan of Liverpool.

Interesting. Met plenty of Stoke fans at uni. Never any Wolves though anywhere.

Interesting to note that a few Man U fans from uni now mysteriously support Man City. One didn’t swap sides but claims not to like football anymore.  Off topic now though!!

Not really the same but does anyone ever hear the word brandish outside of a footballing context? I don't think anyone has ever brandished anything other than a referee.

Imagine Brand-ish will be more common after he is convicted
