AFCON - Jan/Feb 2024

Recommended Posts

I think the loss of Ndidi in his current form and Iheanacho both playing for Nigeria, Fatawu for Ghana and Daka for Zambia are going to be a big miss for us for up to 5 weeks.

Yes I know we have a strong squad but in some games we have struggled to win and only then by the odd goal with our strongest team out. I just feel we need our players who step up to the first 11 to give 100% everytime they play! Other wise some wins 1-0 wins maybe 0-1 defeats. What we do not need is some half heart efforts on the field because they hoping for a transfer out in January.

Praying Ghana overlook Fatawu but cannot see it happening on current form

Is the squad for AFCON even smaller than standard qualifier / friendlies? If so, there is a chance he doesn't go. That said his current form might have convinced them to promote him ahead of others.

Hoping that McAteer and Yunus will be available for those 5 weeks. Don't know enough about Cannon yet and can't rely on Vardy's fitness. A run of injuries that we normally get around this time of the season could really derail us. We should at least be OK defensively.

Hopefully he has a chat with the manager and decides not to go because its better for his development in the long run to continue in the league.

You can't turn down international football when your country comes calling.

Hopefully we actually have transfers lined up early to soften the blow of any AFCON departures. January this year was a total disgrace.

This is especially true if those soon to be out-of-contract have indicated they will not re-sign. That said, it's going to be the usual difficulties trying to do transfer business in the winter window. Might be some loans to plug gaps.

We have seen 2 players rekindle & turn their own potential their careers around

Some will say big time.

And we find also an another young potential quality player that oozes class.

In a position RW,we have been trying for years to solve.

2 becoming important cogs within Enzós system..the other just gave a taste

that his smile, might be around for awhile

One can’t say we won’t miss them..

But whoooaaa there, hold on there boys..!!…

The system itself, with Enzo holding & playing with the reins..

Hes been class ,reholstering the squad and their furniture needs

ImO We will not stutter has many FTers it seems they believe.

Praet/Agun/Choudhury, Mcateer ,Vardy  Cannon ,tweaks in set up

 New faces from within…:dunno:

We are not heading for a IF ONLY moment,or AFCON…can .AFCON off!,

NDIDI, DAKA ,FataWU ,NACHO,  are  replaceable within this phase our SYSTEM with the other squad quality places we have. Even too early to say,no matter how they have performed, that the others can’t/won’t be delivering solid or even better showings when eased into first choice.

I believe our story so far, from within fanbase, is far beyond we the fans could expect. It’s a self protective system, it can regrow its claws, when losing one.

plus our advantages over our oppo, IS superior .This season is an hard championship season…The club, the squad, individual players, with a very clever

and canny Enzo & coaching staff, have blended and settled well above what we could of Anticipated..

Both us and Ipswich have landed on our feet for this Top 4 challenge,we will hold the bragging rights, also when others try to come calling. Maybe 1-4 teams takes more points off us,but the others are flaying inside their own juices of inconsistency.

What shouldn’t be forgot,a couple will come strong from nowhere, where others even the near chasing pack, have had 20 hard games, and not had the fortune, with their squads,to recuperate for another 20 high gradient gametimes.

Despite last seasons catastrophy, the frustrating mediocrity of our performances

This club has shaken itself down, done well with replacements, and loans, but still keeping a backbone of players, that actually does have the skills and mental strength to TELL US ,SHOW US,PROVE to US, they ARE good enough to take the challenge on.  One big proof, Enzo, no matter who he selected,no matter what we had before us…any wobbles ( loss of games) any miscalculation of gameday tactic,

and small injury crisis it’s been corrected to the satisfaction of the Manager & fans.

Hes dared to use his whole squad, even when there were no injuries,to said positions in the early days…which is paying off now..Every player has had a taste & preparation.

My feet are on the ground,I am confident Not entitled, that top 2 is ours.

Even with those awkward football twists and turns.

I don’t know the how or why, but this squad with this system and belief Enzo brought with him,is the right blend for this first phase of the challenge…

Tomorrow is another day,and for other times.Let’s enjoy the garland around this phase..

Re:Ghana squad. Direct from the BBC....

Brighton right-back Tariq Lampey also misses out because of injury, but West Ham midfielder Mohammed Kudus, Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo and Leicester City defender Daniel Amartey are all in the 27-man squad.

Amartey in a squad that Fatawu isn't good enough for.   Ghana must be the flat earth society of the football world.

reports that both him and Kel arent going due to injuries, shame that......

It’s funny how certain mystery injuries can sometimes just mysteriously clear up a few weeks later, isn’t it? 😉
