An obvious example is the use of the terms "mad" vs "bad". But there are many others.

Edwards has "made" a number of images, so in theory this could just be opening images of child pornography sent to you unsolicited? I suppose the word made is just open enough to be able to apply it to various circumstances where indecent images are being stored and there is some participatory element in being issued with these images. This is what makes it such a ridiculously delicate case, as I previously noted. The law really needs tightening up and clarifying, here.

But this event and the John Hunt story a couple of weeks ago are both cut very deep. So unbelievably painful for the families

Opening an email attachment or message,WhatsApp for example, creates an image file on your device, you've therefore, by the letter of the law, made an image. Solicited or unsolicited. I was also reminded when reading about this yesterday, that the legal definition regarding child pornography/indecent images, is 18. A person could legally have a physical relationship with someone aged 17 but if they sent you a naked/semi clothed photo of themselves, you're making an indecent image of a child. Which all seems a lot less disgusting than something involving a young child, which is what most of us would naturally assume when indecent images of children is mentioned. I'm not condoning what Edwards alleged offence is as one assumes the police / CPS haven't the resources to prosecute someone for the odd picture if, you're say 20 and in a relationship with someone who's 17. There's obviously more to it in the Edwards case and It's especially creepy given his age and position.

Obviously if you were sent something like that completely innocently and reported it immediately you wouldn't be getting charged, although you will still have technically "made" an image by the above definition. Popular Post Sampson Posted 30 July Popular Post Share Posted 30 July (edited) 15 hours ago, Lionator said: Very true. I don’t think many people have truly grasped how utterly bleak the future is both in the short and long term. We have a basically flat line economy that is kept afloat by immigration (whether people like it or not). We have more and more people who are becoming anti immigration. We have birth rate decline, yet we have a social situation where white British birth rates will decline and non-white’s will continue to rise (to note I do not have a problem with this). This will lead to tension, riots, potentially even civil and sectarian violence. Then on the global scale, we have a war in Europe, the Middle East is on fire, the Americans are willing to destroy western economies to stick one over China. Western Europe is basically at war with Russia. We are geopolitically in a WWI situation where two ways to run countries are clashing and neither will back down. Except unlike WWI, we have nukes. Finally if we survive internal strife, if we somehow do not get annihilated in a nuclear firestorm, we have climate change to look forward to and all of the instability, death and destruction that will bring. Happy Monday everybody. 😄😄😄 It’s the most unstable I remember the western world being. I miss the heady optimistic days of the third way in the 00s and 90s. Feels like “the long peace” and “the end of history” long since gone. Genuinely think WW3 is a possibility in my lifetime now which I would’ve laughed at 10 years ago. Also 15 years ago I was optimistic about how the internet would bring the world closer together, but it’s got to the point where I think the internet is bad for humanity overall. Too much information out there for human society to deal with what’s true and what isn’t Edited 30 July by Sampson
