Enzo Maresca Pre-Match Press Conference vs Stoke City

 

His comments about the transfer window / Sensi are in the January transfer window thread - he didn’t really say anything, just focusing on Stoke tomorrow

 

Justin available after illness? 

“He’s back and he’s available for tomorrow’s game.”

 

Any other injuries?

“No."

 

Fatawu back?

“He’s a very important player. He is the kind of winger that we love. Very happy to have him back for tomorrow’s game. He is very young and has to improve many things. It depends tomorrow the game and we’ll see if we give him the chance from the start. He’s worked very well during his time out.”

 

Stoke set up?

“They press high. We played against their manager when we played Plymouth. The second goal was from Mads in behind and that’s one of the solutions when teams press high. If they do the same, we’ll use solutions in behind.”

 

How do you pick your striker?

“Sometimes we choose our striker depending on the opponent and their centre-backs. Swansea have a high line so we tried to use with Kiernan and Kasey behind. Pat gives us energy and running in behind. Also he can link with his team-mates. He presses the keeper who was their most dangerous player. He is doing very well. He gave the first assist to Kiernan. He missed some chances but it doesn’t matter. He will score goals if he gets the chances.”

I like the reasoning on pur choice of strikers. I think Cannon revels in space being created for him by a player like Yunus.

Isn't he just taking the piss out of Swansea and basically saying their goalkeeper was their most dangerous player? That's how I read it anyway.

Not necessarily, they played us at our own game a little bit, especially during that period between 30 and 60 minutes when they looked comfortable albeit not dangerous. They were playing out from the back a lot, and we know how much Enzo values a goalkeeper who can do that.
