Blue Cards for Sin-Bins

This is mainly for those who yearn for the pre-var days. But how many blue cards would Mike Riley have issued to United players in this game? I'm guessing non!

Terrible idea, yellow and red cards do the job, the game will become stale.

Do they even know how long 10mins are? Judging from what I see in games the refs have no concept of time.

 

Get consistency right first

Do away with the delayed offside flagging

Have a visible match clock

The biggest time wasting is free kicks.  Allow quick free kicks insight of goal, it’s up to the defence to get it sorted instead of arguing with the-ref. 

 

Consider going back to the rule book before all these changes it seem to work pretty well for decades

3 or 4 blues a game for the first 4/5 games. Then next to none.

That's a great way to completely disproportionately shaft a game of football.

Automatic offside like when the ball crosses the line is more important to stop these big delays by manually checking the lines everytime, surely with ai and tech available it would be possible

What football needs to do first, if they need to follow/improve, is have an official timekeeper just as they have in rugby.

 

Giving refs another card only increases the chances of them pulling out the wrong one!!

The great thing about football when I was growing up was the game was the same in a primary school game as it was in the World Cup. For me, the further it moves away from that the worse it will become.

I suppose the logic is to try and phase out problems that would warrant a card, rather than to actually give out the card - preventing rather than treatment.

 

But seeing as they've failed to implement yellow cards for diving/deceiving the ref (and thus doing nothing to wipe out diving), i can't see them having any success here.

Sounds good in principle until you get rat face fernandez chasing and harassing the ref all game with no punishment only for the ref to then blue cards winks the first time he questions a decision.

Nah ,not for me thanks  ,don't  try to reinvent the wheel ,(goes  for var too ).

How about  this rule  implemented  ,

Penalties can only be taken by the actual player a foul was committed against  ? Hand ball a a side. 

It would be interesting  watching a defender who was pushed/ pulled who had come up for a corner take the pen.

Also it might prevent the formality of a ' specialist ' pen taker scoring and stop them from bagging 12 goals a season- 10 of them penalties

Aha. But then they could introduce green cards for teams busy time wasting. 
 

Then they could introduce a giant joker card just like in It's A Knockout, and the team playing it could field all their subs for 10 minutes.

It won’t be outfield players as they will have to go off for 30 seconds as well

I watched the villa v chelsea game last night and 4 minutes were added on. Should have been at least 10. We need to keep the rules simple so their is no room for interpretation. Who would time the blue card and get it right given that injury time can't even be timed correctly.

They're saying 2 blues or a yellow and a blue would constitute a red - so the blue is actually a harsher punishment than a yellow. It's an 'orange' card

Absolutely. This should be the rule.

 

I don't actually mind the blue card idea. But I'd prefer rugby's ten yard rule. Slightest complaint about a free kick and it moves ten yards towards the goal. If that takes it into the box then it becomes a penalty.

 

Anything to stop the spoilt whiny millionaires getting in the ref's face all the time.

If they really want to improve the game they need to bring back straight red cards for simulation inside the box. Also straight red cards for players demanding a yellow card after they got fouled.
