Concrete steps taken to sign Leicester City midfielder – Addition wanted before window closes

There’s a claim in the Turkish media that Fenerbahce are showing interest in Leicester City midfielder Boubakary Soumare.

It’s been well documented throughout the summer that the Super Lig side are looking to sign a central midfielder and they’ve been linked with a number of players from the Premier League.

Aslinda today report the Leicester City player is the latest midfielder that Fenerbahce have on their radar. Since Fred picked up an injury during pre-season, Jose Mourinho has been keen to bring in an experienced central midfielder to fill the void left by the former Manchester United man.

The Turkish media outlet say Fener have taken concrete steps to sign Soumare, with just ten days left of this transfer window. There’s no indication of whether those steps involved an offer.

Soumare spent last season on loan at Sevilla and made 34 appearances for the Spanish side. He’s contracted to Leicester City until June 2026 and was a used substitute during the Foxes 1-1 draw with Spurs on Monday night, although he came on very late.

The bloke clearly loves a kebab,

let’s make this happen.

Proper DOF/owner would be on his phone ringing around trying to offload him even to some French lower league team or come up with a swap deal somewhere

They’re not going to pay what we want, and we shouldn’t sell him less than book value if we don’t want the loss for PSR. Just need a loan with them paying wages hopefully

Why does he need concrete steps?  To match the concrete in his boots maybe?

Surprised Chelsea aren't in for him, as they're collecting midfielders :P! Give an Enzo discount!

It’s crazy how many players they have.

They could register two entire squads. Truly bonkers.

I can’t believe for one minute that Mourinho has looked at Soumare and wants to make him one of the most expensive additions and highest paid players in the Turkish league.

No one else is paying this bloke £80k per week like we are.

That passage of play on Monday night, where he was seemingly the centre forward, mis controlling the ball, watching himself lose it and not track, then basically still being in the same place to retrieve it when the ball came back was as every bit as bad as a Sunday League game when everyone is knackered in the 93rd minute.

Deadline day loan with us covering half the wages, one year closer to him leaving for nothing.

No repercussions.

And we turned down £17m from Monaco for him the pre season before we got relegated, unbelievable

I know this frustrates the hell out of people but in fairness that isn't as terrible a bit of business as we act.

It would have been only breaking even on him and only 3ish million profit that footballing year.

We probably felt that cashing in on a loan fee and hoping he kick-starts his career on loan to inflate his value was a better deal.

Obviously it's not worked out like that now in hindsight but you can see the logic looking back.

I get what you’re saying mate but we’re just terrible at negotiating.

We appear to over pay on fees and wages but then have an unrealistic value for our players.

Turning down money for Iversen last summer for him to then rot before a January loan is a prime example of this.

The other thing to note with all transfers, is that they’re often structured with trigger points.

So we might have paid £20m for Soumare upfront. If we did that, we’d still have him on the books at £15m.

Monaco might have offered £5m up front, with £12m in trigger points add ons for all we know.

Selling him would have had a massive impact on PSR in that instance.

All Premier League clubs will struggle to sell players if transfer fees and wages don’t come in line with other leagues under these financial doping rules, as the league is crippling itself.

I don't disagree with most of that tbf.
