We’ve also just been pegged back to a 6 point lead by our closest rivals in quite possibly the most morale damaging fashion all of 3 days ago.. Saturday’s league game is the very definition of MUST WIN and we’re whinging at the fact that we’re not going full strength away to Premier League opposition? If he goes full strength, scrapes past Bournemouth and draws Man City next round and then we get turned over Saturday and the lead is cut to 3 there’d be open rebellion on here and rightly so. He’s damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t, really. Sorry to the travelling fans, but timing has scuppered you. The priority is the league and promotion. Had the lead still been 12 (which it bastard should be, by the way) then give the FA Cup a whirl n’all. It’s 6, we’re wetting the bed a bit and a raft of changes is the right call. The point is really it’s our second choice competition this season, IF we had won against Middlesbrough and Leeds and we were sitting with a 12 point lead at the top of the Championship, then we would have put out a much stronger team and maybe looked to take on this competition with promotion all but secured. As we lost those two games, this game can no longer take any sort of priority. Between now a the 1/4 final we play 3 games, if we get through and win all 3 games in the league. We have seen this season a far bigger appetite to promote academy prospects and this has certainly had a very positive impact with a number of academy players getting decent opportunities and generally showing an ability to step up and play at a higher level. Of course beating them doesn't mean we're a Premier League team, in fact I think we're far from it, but in Cup games who knows. Anything happens. I hope the team does not have this 'we won't be winning it this season' mentality. Why not forfeit in the first round? Whole point of the FA cup is that anyone can win it. I'm not crazy I know that it is likely we will lose tonight, but upsets are always possible.
