Punjab should have won.  Fixed bullshit competition

Why not have an English born, Asian heritage singer in the competition?

Is Israel in Europe?

Not last time I looked. It's all bullshit, anyway.

Obviously I was joking about why Australia are part of Eurovision, the real reason they and countries like Israel, which are not part of Europe, are part of Eurovision is to do with the broadcasting companies.

Members of the European Broadcasting Union are eligible for entry into Eurovision, regardless of their geographical location, at least that's how I understand it.

Australia are a recent addition but Israel have been in it for years.

Was saying before the show that I think Rammstein would win it if they were to take part. Finland's entry last year and Croatia's poundshop effort this year winning the public vote suggests to me they would win.

Nobody is forced to watch the thing if they're too delicate for it's strong content.

Probably a sad indictment of the need to resort to strong content in place of well written songs performed without overt sexualisation if still aimed at a family audience with young children

Who suggested it was for such a young audience? It doesn't start before 9pm CET, by which time most kids are sleeping.

If anything I thought the entries this year had a decent variety of acts that had different appeal. There was rock/metal, pop ballads, dance, techno, avantgarde, chansons, 80s/90s/00s vibes, hip hop/rap/urban, several with traiditional local musical flavours as well - pretty ecclectic, if not great quality.

I'm not a fan, but I just accept Eurovision for what it is.

Started 8pm British time. Like it or not more kids probably up during weekend. It was traditionally something kids could watch without parents concern for content.

We agree on the time then - only 8pm in three countries. And by 9pm (or later for 15+ countries) kiddies have gone to bed.

Honestly though, I find much of today's commercial and abundant children's TV content far more problematic than some of the risqué acts of Eurovision.

I think we'd do better if we tried to incorporate some of our musical heritage into the songs. Like a Welsh choir, or Scottish bagpipes, or some kind of English folk or even indie elements. Is gay sex in a dilapidated swimming pool changing room representative of Britain? (don't answer this question)

I think it boils to the fact we are disliked on eurovision. One top 3 finish in 30 years is not great. Lets face it if we went Switzerlands act as our uk entry wed have gotten nil points.

That not true is it. We basically won it 2 years ago. Pick someone who can sing whatever song they chose to perform well and we stand a better chance. Its subjective whether you like any of the songs, but you can deny Sam Ryder put on a great show and belted out the vocals brilliantly. This year and last both sounded like they'd got the mic turn down to the lowest setting, to interested in the dance routine than the vocals. I think prior to that we had that James Newman who sang like he had a sore throat. The list could go on, but we basically sent 25 years of dross performed badly and then we complain we don't get votes.

Still peed me off John Newman danced around happy getting nil points. Sorry but coming home nil points representing your country is not to be joyful about.

I did have to answer questions from my 7 year old why the finish guy had no trousers on lol

I think the sexual stuff does need toning down a little bit, even if it is post-watershed.

Yeah since polands bucket dancers the stakes have been raised who can be the most sexual. Times changed though instead of women going on with near nothing on. Its more the guys. The spainish one was probably only a camera frame away from being considered porn.
