The free agents every club want to sign in 2024
From Kylian Mbappe to Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, there are some big names available for Premier League clubs to sign for free this month, but there are also a lot who could be on their way out.

2024 has arrived, and with it comes a fresh dose of chaos in the form of the January transfer window.

It’s usually a period where there are few big deals done, with clubs more focused on loan deals or outgoings of unused players during this period.

However, with clubs looking to become ever more thrifty under the watchful eyes of Financial Fair Play enforcers, the free agency market is one that most will be perusing through.

Premier League, LALIGA, WSL and more. The world's best football is on Optus Sport. Sign up here.

There are a huge number of players who will be out of contract at their current club come June 30 but January 1 is an important date, as it is the date where clubs can begin negotiating with these soon-to-be out-of-contract stars.

However, under English FA laws, players can’t negotiate with or sign a pre-contract agreement with a team within the same league – so a player currently at a Premier League club cannot sign a pre-contract agreement with another Premier League club. They can only open talks a month before their contract expires.

The rule is there in a bid to avoid conflicts of interest in the event a player may face their future club before leaving their current one.

Premier League clubs are, however, able to sign pre-contract agreements with players from teams in other leagues.

Here’s who’s currently available as a free agent in come June 30…

Every Premier League player who is out of contract at the end of the 2023-24 season

Nathan Egerton 07 May 2024 3:10 PM

Thiago Alcantara, Raphael Varane and Tosin Adarabioyo will be out of contract at the end of the season.

A number of high-profile Premier League players have now entered the final few months of their contracts and could be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

While some players will eventually commit their future to the club, a lot of stars choose to run their contracts down before picking their next move.

Using data from transfermarkt, we’ve taken a look at every Premier League player who is out of contract in 2024. An asterisk indicates that the club have the option to extend the player’s contract for another year but have not yet activated it.

Note: we’ve not included any loanees or any academy players who are yet to sign a professional contract.

Arsenal

Arthur Okonkwo – Goalkeeper
Karl Hein – Goalkeeper
Cedric Soares – Right-back
Mohamed Elneny – Midfielder
Jorginho* – Midfielder

Jorginho has been linked with a return to Serie A and is reportedly attracting interest from Juventus, Fiorentina, Lazio and Napoli.

But The Athletic claim that Arsenal have offered the Italy international a new contract, and he is expected to accept it.

“I would love to keep him,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said. “He knows that. The club is fully supportive of that. He makes us better so we want him to stay.”

Elneny – who is the longest-serving player at Arsenal – and Cedric find themselves on the fringes of Arteta’s squad and they won’t be offered new deals.

Hein and Okonkwo are behind David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale in the goalkeeping pecking order at Arsenal and look set to leave on free transfers.

Aston Villa

Bournemouth

Darren Randolph – Goalkeeper
Ryan Fredericks – Right-back
Lloyd Kelly – Centre-back
Emiliano Marcondes – Midfielder

Kelly is out of contract at the end of the 2023/24 season and has been linked with Tottenham, Liverpool, Newcastle United, West Ham, AC Milan and Juventus.

TEAMtalk sources have confirmed that Bournemouth have offered the 25-year-old an extension, but they are not confident of tying him down to fresh terms.

Silva joined Chelsea on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020 and has since made over 150 appearances for the Blues, helping them win the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA World Club Cup.

The 39-year-old centre-back recently confirmed that he will leave Stamford Bridge when his contract expires at the end of the season.

“Chelsea means a lot to me. I came here with the intention of only staying for a year and it ended up being four years,” he said.

“It is already hard saying goodbye in the most normal of circumstances but when there is a mutual love, it’s even harder. But once a Blue, always a Blue.”

According to Fabrizio Romano, he has reached a verbal agreement with former club Fluminense and will sign a two-year contract.

Crystal Palace

Tosin has decided to leave Fulham at the end of the season and Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham, Newcastle and West Ham have all shown interest in the 26-year-old.

TEAMtalk can reveal that Newcastle are currently leading the race for his signature as they are in advanced talks with his entourage over a possible contract agreement.

While Fulham are yet to trigger the one-year extension in Willian’s contract, they are hoping to keep him at Craven Cottage.

“Yes, I was clear in the last two months that we are happy with him and we try to renew the contract with him,” Marco Silva said.

While United previously said Varane was contracted to the club until 2025, his contract actually expires in June 2024 and United have the option of an additional year.

According to ESPN, United are reluctant to trigger the one-year option as it would keep the 31-year-old on wages of £340,000-per-week.

The Red Devils have also decided not to activate the option to extend Martial’s contract when it expires at the end of the season.

But United will trigger the one-year option for Fernandez, who looks set to turn his loan move at Benfica into a permanent deal.

McBurnie is attracting interest from Turkish outfit Antalyaspor and reports in Greece have suggested that Baldock is set to sign a three-year contract with Panathinaikos.

According to Alan Nixon, Ipswich Town have set their sights on Jebbison and are looking to sign the 20-year-old on a free transfer.

id be  reluctant to sign any aging prem player..... What do they have to prove? why would they come to Leicester? Money. Thats why. At least with an out of contract championship 'star' they'd be desperate to make it work..

For me the dream free agents would be:

Miranda LB

Hermoso CB

Barkley CM

Rafa Silva CAM

Roger LW

then pick up a few cheap gems, all for the price of one KDH and we’re golden !
