This smells of £10m plus Cannon to me.

Spot on, the valuation Blackburn have set is just to appease the fans wouldn’t be surprised if it’s an undisclosed fee of around 10m plus giving them a player on loan such as Cannon.

straight swap for Daka.

Daka would kill it in the EPL.............

Daka was in Bournemouth on Monday. Probably just enjoying a spot of volleyball on Sandbanks Beach...

This is from an interview with Szmodics published just a few days ago:

"The midfielder’s perspective on the style of play resonates strongly with current debates in football circles. Szmodics prefers a more direct style, a sentiment encapsulated in his critique of over-caution in play: “I’m not a fan of the teams that just keep the ball and don’t go anywhere with it. I like to see teams take the game forward, to push the boundaries.” His philosophy aligns with a growing frustration among fans and pundits alike with overly cautious tactics, advocating for a dynamic, forward-thinking approach to the game."

Shhhhhh. Nobody tell him....

it’s amazing how the potential of a prem contract that can turn you into a millionaire can help you appreciate possession football…

Huge improvement over Daka.

that’s a tough call to make, to say he’s a HUGE improvement on Daka. Daka scored goals in the Austrian league and Scmodics has scored in the champ - never played in the prem.

id at least like to sign someone who has some top flight experience, personally.

If Daka leaves and Szmodics joins, you'd have to imagine we'd be signing another striker too (particularly as Szmodics operates primarily as an attacking midfielder).

he could maybe cover both -  the 9 or the 10 which would definitely be our thing- get someone in who can cover more than 1 position. But yes we’d definitely need another striker in with Daka, Nacho off and Vardy likely unable to play and finish many games..

Scored 20 goals from Attacking midfield position.

Scored 6 goals from Central forward position.

Scored 1 goal from Left midfield position.

Scored three goals against us, so has taken our eye, not to mention also scored against premier league opposition against Newcastle in the league cup.

All those who say he’s to old we need a younger striker look at this way. Yes you get better sell on value higher cieling etc, but you get inconsistency. With this guy yes he’s 28 going on 29 but he is experienced knows where the net is and still can give you a good 4 to 5 years easy. Vardy signed for us at 27 and is now 37. Was anyone saying he’s not 20 at the time

Vardy was 25 when he signed for us, he was 1m and he's a once in a decade player. It's very rare for players to develop as late as him and still be playing at 37/38.

Sammie Szmodics - Detailed stats | Transfermarkt

100% NO - these stats look average at best excluding last year, and at this age with such low consistency, its a massive gamble and one we cannot afford

That depends on the cost. At £20m I'd agree; at £10m I'd say he's worth a punt.

Players develop at different stages of their careers. Some burn bright early on and then fade; some are late bloomers; others are consistent all through their career. Maybe Szmodics is a late bloomer? He wouldn't be the first. Vardy didn't really come into his own until his late 20s; ditto Ian Wright and Ciro Immobile. It happens.

He’s a great example of inconsistency, have you had a look at his stats? One outstanding season in his entire career.

32 goals from 78 games for Blackburn

25 goals from 89 games with Peterborough

35 goals in 142 games for Colchester

Has had multiple seasons reaching double figures as an attacking midfielder, albeit at lower league levels. Overall he is at worst a 1 in 4-5 scorer from attacking midfield, and those numbers have been creeping up over time.

He is definitely a gamble, but those are very decent stats. He didn't look overawed playing against our team featuring many players with vast Premier League experience.

It all depends on the price. If there's an option for a lower fee plus player loan, he could be good business. But definitely appreciate the point you make.

It's also worth pointing out that his most significant season, this one, he was playing counter attacking, high pressing, direct football from which he benefited.

I'm 99% we aren't seriously looking at Szmodics, it's just a silly article. He's not an obvious fit here in the slightest.

If Norwich win in the play offs he'd do alright there but they'd have to really lower the asking price.

Wouldnt mind this at a fair price. But it seems we never really sign a 'flavour of the month' 'top scorer' player....maddison was maybe the last hyped player we signed?

Yeah, because he’s the only forward on the market…

SIGH.....compared to what we have this guy isnt as bad as people are making out, he is passed his best and has no sell on value but FACT he scored more than all our strikers last season in a much weaker team.

I'm not saying i would want him here but people who think he or anyone else may not be good enough for us should look at the players we have.
