Would be nice to hear from some Tory voters though, without them being chased off of this thread. Struggling to think of why anyone, in any demographic or age group, would vote for them. I am reasonably sure they will get more than one vote on July 4, so would be good to hear from anyone who is a real person as to why they are voting that way.

IDK, call me a drooling Labour cuck but it seemed to me Starmer was clearly clued up about the £2k tax figure being a load of old bollocks and let Sunak repeat it, therefore hanging himself with it once the news inevitably broke this morning.

I was thinking this today. It ws so weird him not challenging it and seems like he used his old prosecutor skills to let Rishi dig his own grave.

Whilst the Civil Service are completely apolitical (lol), they've been treated so poorly by this government that wouldn't surprise me if the statement from the treasury was also pre-arranged.

Fair enough he had to row back on some pledges, but then he must be prepared about what he IS going to do and deliver rather than shoot off about Liz Truss in response to most of the questions, that isn't leadership.

Well I can't prove he is lying obviously, but I can form a view that he would rather use a private healthcare system than see one of his kids or wife die if they required treatment. 99% people would unless you are callous. It was in response to a question from the audience where a ladys cousin had died whilst being on a waiting list.

If you had the choice of your spouse or kids dying instead of receiving treatment from the private healthcare system, what would you do?

They were both asked if they would use private healthcare if they had a loved one "on a long waiting list" and felt it "was the only way forward". Etchingham even clarified to Starmer that the question was about "a waiting list for surgery", after he said no. So you're accusing him of lying about a hypothetical life and death scenario that was never even put to him.

Why is anyone surprised?

It’s what the Tories have been doing since 2016, although this goes beyond even the red bus fiasco. Completely fabricate figures from thin air then repeat the same 2-3 word slogan over and over again. “Clear plan” and “bold action” are just the new “get Brexit done /hands face space /strong and stable / coalition of chaos / taking back control / project fear /etc. etc.”

It should be electoral fraud to just invent figures and claim they were independently collated by civil servants and then making it one of your key driving points of a campaign. There’s bending statistics to look a certain way, but straight up lying about the independence of statistics and that the civil service created them when they didn’t is fundamentally bringing into disrepute the independence of the civil service that is needed as a pillar of the checks and balances that make democracy viable, it’s also allegedly knowingly lying to British authorities which should be a crime.

You only have to read the likes of Tommy G’s posts in the past few pages to see this shit still works.

You wouldn't though, or at least you do not know that. By earning average wage in this country you are likely amongst the top 5% of global earners, probably in the top 0.1% of the richest people that have ever lived. Billions of people across the world will say why do you need a car, alcohol, meals out, takeaways, a TV, new clothes, a holiday, central heating, someone to cut your hair, junk food that adds no calorific value, a garden etc etc. We live in extreme and unnecessary luxury and always want more. You will not be saying no to a promotion or pay rise at work

I know it is probably hard for many to believe but I have turned down offers of higher paying jobs and promotion. It doesn't particularly interest me. I manage a comfortable lifestyle, don't drink or smoke and generally buy food from the shop for a few days at a time. Last year I had my first foreign holiday since 2016 and I spent a grand total of about £800 for 9 days across Europe.

I earn £31-34k (depending on if I do some extra work, usually for interest and stimulation) and that does me. I'd be quite happy with this sort of lifestyle for the rest of my life, as I can find ways to keep myself entertained and feeling fulfilled.

I appreciate my position in the world and don't push it. I think the world would be a much better place if we all just worked less, lived simpler lives and were happy with maintaining a healthy existence.

When even the biggest Tory magazine going is starting to question the odious tactics of inventing statistics and lying about how they were independently created you know they’re screwed.

They're accusing the opposition of their own crimes.

Nothing to see here, just a Prime Minister nobody voted for leading most corrupt government we’ve ever had, repeating a lie that has already been debunked, in a video that features the football ground of the most corrupt club in world football.

You can’t make it up.

I think people who will vote Tory this time are what I would called 'blind loyalists' who feel that a vote for Labour is a vote for communism (yet alone socialism). Their hatred of Labour is their strongest overriding emotion.

Tories definitely going full on Sideshow Bob in his run for mayor with these dystopian videos. I fully expect the next video is going to be showing Sunak behind a campaign lecture while Laura Kuenssberg on voice over announces “and just look how happy he is”

I think the main issue is that so far we've only seen people voting Tory being eternally obsessed with Labour, rather than eloquent reasons about their policies or why they deserve another five years at the wheel. If a Tory can set out their reasons why they're voting for them without some attack on the opposition then whilst it'd be challenged I'd hope people would respect it.

Blaming the party that hasn't been in power, or casting doubt on them seems to be the MO. It's like Labour need to prove why they should take over as if it's been 14 years of perfection.

Four more weeks of this, too. Tiresome. Bring on the exit poll on 04 July to signal the true end to this campaign.

Ok fair enough, you are the only person I will believe when moaning about the rich and 'don't they have enough'

You should give speeches!! Better than all the life coaches or inspiration mentors out there, you're actually walking your talking

I'm sure someone cleverer than me can do a funny meme...I'm looking at you @Daggers

I think @Raj it's about interesting debate - if you'd rather sling insults on a forum carry on, I'm beyond all that - you should be too at 50 odd.

This is the hottest thread in General Chat for a while, beats what are you having for dinner anyway.

That's practically a rhetorical question, since it already said "you felt it was the only way forward." If you answer no, then you didn't feel it was the only way forward.

Either that or you were prepared to let someone die.

Might not have done brilliantly at debunking it in the debate (though he partially did, contrary to reports), but on the other hand he's got a full day's worth of headlines calling it out:

Heard from a couple of barristers today who've argued, quite convincingly (but then I'm bias) that what he did last night was textbook lawyering.

They state that he allowed Sunak to lie, not once but repeatedly. He made the lie over and over - and today slapped out the proof that he knew he was lying and had been told not to. In doing so, Starmer has allowed Sunak to paint himself as a completely unreliable source of information and this will factor in to the second and final debate.

Might be true, might be complete BS. What I reckon is moot.
