Premier League 24/25 Pre-season guff (misc talking points)

Chelsea are firmly in the United camp now of won't threaten for anything serious for a long time. Their ownership are beyond clueless.

Sacking Poch was idiotic, thought they were looking good for at least a top 4 spot next season considering their form at the end of last season.

Don't Chelsea and City both play each other in 2 weeks on the opening weekend? Seems a daft pre-season friendly but I guess it wasn't scheduled for footballing purposes.

Surprised the methods Enzo employs haven't translated as well at Chelsea so far. We all know his strengths and weaknesses but he did get a little tune out of us in pre-season and we were solid defensively under him.

Playing a system which doesn't get the best out of James and isolates the likes of Gallagher probably means there's a bit of squad disharmony though. Issue might be getting player buy in, but they should improve once Palmer and Cucurella are back.

Is he? Or are his players being found out? Players at that level should be able to pass it around the back with ease.

Regardless of whatever level, you've got a set of players, you get the best out of them, if they're not comfortable, capable or confident to do that, you don't do it, first and foremost you play to their strengths.

If Maresca or any manager for that matter has a long term plan then so be it, but you bring players in over an amount of time, introducing slowly and building until you're able to play 'his way'.

I’m waiting for the “I arrive with this idea and the moment there is doubt, the next day I will leave” attitude and outburst.

Chelsea won’t stand for it.

Or you play them and see if they can do it in your system in a preseason friendly?  Whilst you're still getting to know the players and what their strengths/weaknesses are.

And how's that going?

Not well. Which is kind of the point isn't it? If he carries on when the season starts that's a different matter.  Tosin gave the ball away and made mistakes at the back, so that probably relegates him down the order.  Gusto playing at LB gave it away for a goal too.  That probably moves the 2nd choice right back out of the reckoning in that regard.  So by playing his system he's seeing who's not up to it.  Which is, like I say, the point.

West Ham have made some cracking signings.

If Lopetegui can make it work, they are going to be right up there.

They seem to be struggling defensively (not surprising having just bought Passive Max Kilman!). But defence was one of the strengths that kept us up when he was in charge of us so I'm sure he'll turn them round even if they might struggle initially).

Dare I say it but I'm quietly confident in Wolves chances of pushing for Europe again this season. We've been playing some great stuff in pre-season and comfortably beat an albeit changed RB Leipzig side 3-0 last night.

New signing Rodrygo Gomes looks the absolute shizzle on the left side of attack. Tireless running and always gets in the box. He's had 3 goals in 3 pre-season games and could easily had 4 or 5 tbh. One for the FPL players in here as he's a very cheap midfielder at £5m.

But for the first time since peak Jimenez we've got attacking flair all across the pitch behind a decent No.9 again (Strand Larsen). If Neto hopefully stays then we're gonna be a very difficult team to stop scoring.

Yerson Mosquera has just come back from a good loan spell at Villarreal and immediately looks an upgrade on Kilman in a back four. Ait-Nouri is just class at LB, and we've just bought a young 19 year old Brazilian RB called Pedro Lima who also looks a complete baller.

Here's Rodrygo Gomes' goal from last night which was a very good team goal. Definitely stick him or Neto in your fantasy team!

Palmer will be frightening next season.

Doh. I looked late last night and have been to bed since! Apologies, you'll just have to switch KDH out to save money...

This season is over before it's started. Man City is 10 classes above everybody else. Arsenal 2nd and below them there's a chaos of totally unstable teams with laughable managers.

Enzo will be sacked before Christmas conceding 3 goals average. Liverpool will play their naive tactics without a top manager in charge. ETH already said winning trophies isn't his priority, he probably thinks he's managing Coventry. Spurs will be Spurs while their manager will try to introduce an offside line in the opposition box.

"Mid" table Villa will focus on their European tour doing a last season Newcastle. The latter will finally understand that nowadays having billions won't attract big names to the city of Newcastle because it's not London. The "butchers" who run the club need to invest in the city and make it like Vegas. This way Grealish will be their first big signing. West Ham will be alright happy in mediocrity. Wolves will continue their "agents" seasons. Brighton will win some and lose some.

Bottom table Forest will also continue their "agents" seasons with Marinakis chasing the refs inside the toilets. Everton and us will spend more time appealing for deduction points and talking about it. Ipswich will play some great attacking football but shockingly will be relegated because Luton did the same and, oh well, they got relegated.

Southampton will lose a game 9-0.

"agents season" lol

We stopped using Mendes for finding players a few seasons ago. He barely gets involved nowadays unless a player is directly under his agency. We have a guy called Matt Hobbs who's director of football who oversees all scouting and signings. He's the reason we've generally signed players for much lower fees the last few years.

Imagine they're either selling Gordon or someone else to make this work given their issues with FFP

Another big loss for Palace though

It happens to any teams that show a bit of progress with a few decent players. They’ll never consistently challenge the sick six
