I've got a funny feeling we can't play any worse and might actually squeak our way through to the later stages.

Your jokes get worse.

Capello's tournament was terrible, Sven's last was but 2002 we lost to Brazil who won it and 2004 we played some great football and were a badly wrong decision away from a semi-final.

Southgate has gone further but he's not a roaring success whilst others are failures.

I think the teams pre 2004ish you felt something for.

Bizarrely for all of the social media and PR training, footballers are so far detached from your everyday person, people can’t connect with them. Anyone with an ounce of character has been binned off like Grealish, so they’re robotic and boring. This is reflected in the performances we see on the pitch.

It’s horrendous to watch.

Surely the players know this?

Gazza wouldn’t get a game under Southgate, he’d be sat at home,

after smashing up half of St George’s Park.

So is it Holland or likely Romania/Slovakia/Ukraine?

Belgium, Italy and Holland biggest threats in our half?

The Turkey v Czechia game is all important. Czech’s win but any more than a three goal victory creates a problem

I thought we were half decent the last twenty minutes without looking like we were gonna score still.

play to our strengths Southgate, we simply have to start with Gordon, Palmer, Mainoo on the team.  If you have to drop a couple of other big names to do it, then just do it

It wouldn't matter. Bellingham is top tier, elite class. But in a Southgate team, even Messi would look like he's playing in a straitjacket. Our players are more than capable, but they're being smothered by a manager who seems to think a 0-0 or 1-0 is the pinnacle of football strategy.

We've been the skid mark of the group stages of which has been a great tournament so far

Or just the toughest group with the best defenses? Half glass full.

It's been tense and cagey and not very exciting.
