Goals last season by players in the England Squad:

Kane 36

Plamer 22

Foden 19

Watkins 19

Bowen 16

Saka 16

Eze 11

Gordon 11

Rice 7

Embarrassing.

23 goals for Bellingham in all comps too.

You can't play all the above together though unfortunately. But Gaz should still be getting a better tune out of them.

Southgate could easily utilise the simple 4-4-2 but with some modern tactical caveats.

.................... Pickford

Walker - Stones - Guehi - Trippier

Palmer - Bellingham - Rice - Gordon

............... Watkins - Kane

Stones can step up into DM as he does for City, and Walker also doing that Inside WB role he plays for City too where he moves into the right side of CM to help out when we have the ball. TAA does this exact role for Liverpool too.

Bellingham can push forwards and play with the aforementioned Walker/Stones filling the gaps he leaves behind.

Then Kane drops off deep as he likes to do for his clubs and Watkins gives that threat in behind. That combo should stretch the defence around more.

IMO this gets the best out of the squad and gives us more in attack. They can all play this sort of system as they do it week in week out for their clubs, or have done at some point. Bellingham has to play slightly deeper, but he's done that role plenty before.

The big issue is at LB but we knew that coming in to the tournament because Gaz decided only to pick one fit LB the melt.

And now the big question, what are you all doing to stay awake vs Slovakia:

1. Paint the room and watch it dry.

2. Force an argument with the wife.

3. Try to cook moussaka.

4. Ask the kids to use their water pistols on you every 10 seconds.

It’s gonna be another team who park the bus. Who we can’t seem to break down.

How many tournaments in a row is it now where England end up with the easiest possible path to the finals? Maybe they'll actually win it this year...

Is this the 4th ? England always seem to top their group(from memory) & some of the other 'top' sides seem to slip up, giving England a decent chance of an easier route.

Maybe we are lucky, but other sides have messed up in their groups in the past. France, Belgium, Netherlands have done so this time. That's my take anyway

It's just an unbelievable draw again isn't it. Such a golden opportunity. But I'm really unconvinced. There is something wrong with England this time.

Yep, we'll mess it up and all whine about what a lost opportunity this was, just like every other tournament.

They will play Italy in the quarters won’t they if both win which they should

Nah the Swiss will beat Italy and we'll lose to them instead.

Or maybe we'll continue to channel the style of the Greek Euro winners and go all the way.

People will laugh at you for saying this. They'll mock you and scorn you. You'll be rejected from polite society and forced to travel a lonely road.

Don't let them grind you down. You might just be onto something ;)

Why is Bellingham getting a free pass on here & by most pundits, he's being carried currently & just needs a rest yet its Foden that keeps being sub'd.

Bellingham will come good but should have been rested in the group stages because now its a 1 game shoot out & it will be a huge call to drop him to the bench although 1 that i think needs making seeing as its Slovakia we are playing & not France.
You can see it in him that he knows he's not firing on all cylinders, he's actually being a little petulant when things don't go his way & i can see him swinging for a player or leaving something on a player out of frustration & ending up missing the rest of the Euro's with a Red & he'll find himself in a Beckham situation.

We have the cover, he needs to 'start' from the bench & if all going well hopefully he gets a full 9 days rest & be ready for the 1/4s...qu's then remain if he should continue as 10 which on current form suggests not.

The first decent team will put us out.

We'll scrape past Slovakia and then lose to Italy AET or on pens. Some controversial incident such as a sending off or questionable decision will be blamed, scapegoating the player or the referee, so it ends up as an 'injustice' rather than a focus on the tactics being all wrong.

Southgate will stay on and try to win the World Cup. Rinse, wash, repeat.

IF we manage to scrape past the low block of Slovakia in yet another bore fest where we really struggle to break a defensive team down (no guarantee of this) , we will get knocked out by Italy and Southgate will say we have had a good tournament and that he is very proud of our young team BUT they will be better in the next tournament.

They will be better in the next tournament - as he won’t be there!!
