Probably needs some sort of VAR mess to get something going...

It got something going in here ...

but on the pitch, it just seems to have deflated things.

Maignon's never getting to that ball, as good a goalkeeper as he is

Impossible decision to make

given that the on field call was offside I’m ok with it being stuck with

probably needed making faster though

in general, if a goal goes ‘through’ a player in an offside position it usually gets chalked off. Whether the keeper is going to save it or not doesn’t usually matter in law

If it takes that long then you surely have to go with the on field decision, also why hasn’t the ref gone to see for himself on the screen considering it’s a subjective offside decision

In the end, they went with the on field decision, it was given offside

It doesn’t matter if he’s getting to it or not, in law it’s offside if he stops Maignon from being able to play the ball which he has. If officials start accounting for could he see the shot through his own players, speed of ball, players reaction times etc, then it gets messy.

Goal for me … keeper was never getting a save in regardless of if anyone was there or not

Nowhere in the rules does it state whether a keeper getting there or not impacts the decision.

Agree to disagree … if he had been actively trying to play it I would agree but he was moving away … but if it was against England and had been given I would have been fuming haha

Theres nothing to disagree about, the laws not about movement, it’s about whether he is impacting him from being able to attempt play the ball, which he is.

Was that Puel in the stands just then?

Next to Capello. I thought the same, even paused to compare a picture. I don’t think it was, but definitely looked a lot like him.
