Portugal vs Slovenia - Monday 1st July - 8pm

The problem Portugal have is that dropping Ronaldo would take bollocks of steel. He's absolutely worshipped in Portugal because of what he was and he's such a narcissistic arse that he wouldn't take it on the chin, demanding instead to be able to step down from international duty on his terms. Drop him, get absolute dog's abuse in the Portuguese press and then see Portugal fail in a tournament and your managerial career could be over.

Sentimentally, it might seem fair enough to give him the captaincy until he drops for all he's achieved but his influence on the team is clearly an issue now. He wants everything played through him despite being a shadow of what he was. You have to question what it does to team morale as well with top players from CL regulars being used as de facto lackeys for a 39-year-old whom nobody in Europe has wanted for two years.

Surely there are players like Bernardo and Bruno Fernández that can stand up to 'the ego'. And say give me a free kick this time. Pathetic if they can't.

Ronaldo would take the ball home with him if that happened

Well seeing Fernandes for Utd you would have thought so.

But there is arrogance and then there is Ronaldo.

Guarantee his teammates hate him. The camaraderie must be honking.

Absolutely especially the likes of Silva and Bruno. They are unbelievable footballers that are basically told to give the ball to the 40 year old.

If this does somehow go to pens, does Ronaldo go for the first pen this time and learn his lesson from Qatar or will he still try to be the last taker and hope he can be the winner?

He’ll go for all 5 I recon.

Regarding the Messi v Ronaldo debate, much rather have Messi - as he's more team-orientated.

I don't think it's been a debate for quite a long time tbh.
