Martin Braithwaite officially free agent now after activating his release clause (he had one to go free if Espanyol went up)

Feels like a bizarre move. You're 33, got promoted to La Liga and ended the season just passed as top scorer.

He must have a deal lined up already...

Pretty sure we weren't interested.

It's a Foxestalk thread in the transfer section. Automatically means we were interested!

Everton, Leicester and Southampton handed second shot at player – Drama isn’t over yet
By Sean Lunt -21st July 2024

Everton, Leicester City and Southampton may have been given their second chance at signing Martin Braithwaite as his proposed move to Olympiakos appears to be off.

That’s according to Tipsbladet and Mundo Deportivo, who both report that the striker has decided to head back to Spain, and nothing is done with the Greek side.

Braithwaite is having a busy week, starting it on Monday by making the surprise decision to buy out his contract at Espanyol and make himself a free agent.

That opened up the race for his signature, with Everton, Leicester and Southampton all having been named as potential suitors for the Danish striker.

Their chances appeared to be over earlier this week, though, as it soon emerged that Olympiakos were leading the race for Braithwaite, and he was heading to Greece to finalise a move to the Europa Conference League winners.
Well, it seems there’s now been a hitch on that front as Tipsbladet report that Braithwaite is now on a flight back to Spain.

They report that it is now unclear whether he will be joining Olympiakos after all given his planned trip to Athens would also see him complete a medical and sign his contract with them.

Mundo Deportivo back this up, saying the deal to take him to Olympiakos has now been called off after it seemed to be a matter of hours away from being completed.

According to them the ‘agreement is currently dead’ and the Dane, who remains a free agent, is considering other options. One of those is Gremio in Brazil.

It seems he’s going to look around, though, opening the door for Everton, Leicester and Southampton to potentially revive their interest if they want to.

Seems he and his agent would like a move to the Prem, but there isn't actually anyone interested. Sounds like the agent is working overtime to try and spark something

Normally we only lock a thread once the player has confirmed for another club.

But I'd like to lock this one now, and ask all of Foxestalk to help me manifest him going to some other set of spanners. :fc:
