Bobby De Cordova-Reid joins permanently - Official

Recommended Posts

Decent signing for me.  Premier league experience, thought of fondly at Fulham.  Has experience in the lower leagues too, shows the club are looking at next season also incase we do go down.

3 years means there's some value in him for us if he needs to move on

It gives me confidence that we do have random signings that go under the radar. SOMETHING happens behind the scenes. Whether he's any good for us we'll have to see mind. The last Fulham forward wasn't that bad for us and we didn't sign him permanently

Three years!!!!

Yep too long.

should be 2 max and maybe an agreement for 3 if X games played etc.

or you hope the money tiers down each year.

but the fact he choose us over staying at Fulham tells you we have overpaid.

No lessons learnt.

Or it tells you Fulham don't offer more than 2 year contracts to over 30's as seen with Willian.

In fact

Ream, 36, Contract expires: Jun 30, 2025 Last contract extension: Dec 29, 2023

Cairney, 33, Contract expires: Jun 30, 2025 Last contract extension: Jan 2, 2024

Willian, 35, Contract expires: Jun 30, 2024 Contract option: club option 1 year Last contract extension: Jul 17, 2023

Jimenez, 33, Joined: Jul 25, 2023 Contract expires: Jun 30, 2025 Contract option: club option 1 year

So it doesn't mean we've overpaid, it means he'd prefer to get the security of a 3 year contract instead of 1 or 2 and continually adding a year which only benefits Fulham.

Saw that, thought contract length was limited to 6 years now?

iirc that's for amortization. you can give a player a 600 year contract but you still can't spread the transfer fee on your books across more than 6.

Ah that makes far more sense lol

If anyone has any doubts about him go through the comments on Fulham’s announcement on X.

Their fans are absolutely gutted he’s leaving - always a good sign.

Think he could be a very astute signing. Welcome Bobby!

My Bristol City mate just messaged me, saying he was a fans' favourite at Ashton Gate, too.

You speak too much common sense for this forum mate 😂

Amortisation is over 5 years now, but as you say, the contract length is irrelevant once it's over that threshold.

The Fulham perspective is interesting. They're unanimous in thinking he's a good player who has been a very consistent for them. He's obviously a top guy, too. It's a bit more mixed on whether they should have let him go, though. A few are quite surprised we've given him 3 years

So everyone who recruits a player from another team overpays?

I'm not sure what Bobby's motivations are, what his family situation is, how he liked mgmt at Fulham, etc.  But plenty of reasons a 31 year old might want to make a move other than unrefusable amount of cash.

Maybe Foxes have better Uno league?

How have we announced this fella before Fatawu

Because Fatawu announced himself 8 months ago so the club just haven’t bothered

I’d rather pay him more/ramp up the SO fee than give him 3 years but I’m just negative and should trust our successful hierarchy/recruitment/ability to shift players.

Should sell for big profit when he's 34.

What does it matter? We got him on a free to provide cover for two wingers who have no premier league experience.

If he’s any good we’ll extend for a year or release him and have lost nothing but wages.
