Foxes Trust Update – Shirt Sponsorship

Recommended Posts

The worry is if a kid looks at the sponsor on a player's shirt, Googles it and actually pays for the service somehow - they could get hooked on it at a very young age..

Literally risky business.

I got hooked on gambling from the mystery box in Call of Duty Zombies.

our sponsor has one but you can't even access it here!

That’s because It’s a white label website, the group that powers it TGP Europe have their own website (betvision.com) which does have a Uk gambling license, it then has a whole load of white label websites and non-active websites which the license doesn’t cover

It was emailed to UFS asking if we could help bring it back.

On the positive it's good they've reached out to you to discuss it.

On the negative, why was it stopped in the first place and could they not go back to what it was?

Question stands. Would you tell that woman that kids being hooked on gambling after seeing it on the shirt is "reaching"?

No, because that’s not what I’ve said.

The OP suggested children seeing a gambling logo on a players shirt would therefore go to the website, use it and become hooked at a young age. You cannot use it without being able to show Photo ID and proving you’re over 18.

The woman you mention has absolutely nothing to do with it, and it’s a very poor move to play that card when discussing the likelihood of children using the site.

Not sure who you mean on who has reached out to us? It was a fellow supporter asking for the help of UFS to assist him in taking it to the club to ask why it appears to have been binned.

With all due respect, you’re reaching with this theory

You say that but a lot of games that are created to entice children in to playing, use the platform and principles of gambling. What's also scary is some of these companies are gambling companies, they're using similar algorithms.

The gambling epidemic does not just start when people are adults. So with all due respect you're incorrect.

I’d imagine that even if we got Walkers Crisps back, some would be unhappy because they know somebody that died from being obese.

People saying that kids won't be affected by this are incredibly naive and guilty of underestimating the tech savvy of Gen Z and Gen Alpha.

If a teenager wants to find a way to gamble, watch grot or do something untoward on the Internet, you can bet your bottom dollar they'll be one step ahead of their parents.

Do you ever use these websites? The hoops you have to jump through to prove identity are quite thorough.

I admit, I might be somewhat naive to the darker sides as I go on just to have a flutter from time to time, but don’t have a problem/addiction. I’ve set deposit limits, only bet what I can afford to lose and do it for fun. Would I feel differently if somebody close to me had a problem, or if it became an addition for me? Probably.

I didn’t mean to cause any upset, it just seemed a little unrealistic to me that little Leicester City could help drive an “epidemic” as somebody called it, when Sky Sports, TalkSport and whatever BT Sports is called now is littered with Bet365, MGM Casino, William Hill, etc every 5 minutes. That’s a far worse problem as those adverts actually glamourise it.

It's about context, this topic is close to me after what I've been through but I try and keep a neutral stance as much as possible. But the whole industry is running riot and very little is being done about it.

The stats involving children and gambling are scary and as I've said, a lot of it stems from the culture of gaming and the companies are using platforms and algorithms used to entice gambling. It's a conveyor belt and it's deliberate.

I'm a father and that's horrifying, I'm also a recovering compulsive gambler and it's tragic that the industry is given so much freedom to do what they want with something that devastates not just the problem gambler but everyone and everything around them.

Gambling shouldn't be banned, that's oppressive and unnecessary but there needs to be more control about how it is facilitated. When you've got publications in Parliament that state 5% of problem gamblers account for 60% of the industry revenue then you know these companies aren't going to put a stop to that off their own backs.

https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld5801/ldselect/ldgamb/79/7903.htm

Our said governments need to get tougher, funnily enough labours stance on gambling and safeguarding in the past has been pretty poor if I recall, so I don't hold much hope.

I could tell you some of the sick stunts these companies pull when they lock on to a said problem gambler, it's a disgrace. In any other walk of life it would be tantamount to a serious crime and yet whilst the industry creates millions in tax I'm sure they'll conveniently kick the issue down the road and pay lip service to the public.

Sorry to hear that bud, I’m a father too so understand. Thanks for such a well educated reply ✌️

I get the alternative view point, and you're right really about what part Leicester play in the wider context of this. It's awash with juggernaut corporations and industries and countries identities that it needs to be higher up that force it, but I suppose it's wishful thinking that our club might join a small group of clubs that are already taking a stand.

It's a totally valid point, but I personally just want my club to do better than be part of the horde of companies pouring fuel on to this particular fire.

And as a kid seeing your favourite player with this emblazoned across their chest is absolutely glamourising it.

Especially when they are quick to limited or gubbed successful gamblers.

They have the mechanism in place to put a stop to people taking value from them, but if you are someone who loses money they will keep taking your money.

I've worked in secondary schools for 10 years.

I've seen kids circumvent various security measures in school to access porn, sat in safeguarding meetings where they've been able to set up dating profiles on paid dating sites and even seen one example of a girl selling pictures and videos of herself on Only Fans. If they want to get around the measures, they're getting around them.

This has already been looked at by the Gambling Commission and this report probably isn't the full extent of it.

https://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/news/article/2022-young-people-and-gambling-report

The new government needs to urgently review the industry at all levels at the moment as it's out of control. That should include an outright ban on sports sponsorship just as happened with the tobacco industry in the 1990s.

Interesting. Viewing porn etc is very easy though,

“are you over 18?” Yes.

I get that worry, but I’m not sure loads of kids in Nottingham started to invest in new boilers a few seasons ago 😂

I’ll let myself out.

Not in a school environment it’s not and that’s the situation described above, kids are extremely tech savvy now
