Hang on, we're supposed to think that Juve will sell 10m under their valuation because the player would prefer to go to Roma?

If he won't agree a contract with us then what option do Juve have?

If Roma value him at 25 million Euros including add ons I wouldn’t be enthusiastic adding another 5-10 million plus higher wages to get this over the line particularly if the player is not keen. Probably need to move on although not seen the response from Juventus

Although I think he’ll end up at Roma, I think we’ll have one last push. Standard agent tactic for talk of Roma’s bid to come out so we get a move on. 2 nights ago there were talk we were preparing a bid of 30m which was set to be accepted.

So, allegedly he is 100% off to a club that’s offering £10m below their asking price, and less even than we’re offering…….

Makes perfect business sense that.

We are being used to push the price up

But if the player refuses to sign for us, what can they do?

Italian journalists / outlets are a nightmare for conflicting reports. Casadei last summer was a classic example, Percy was insistent we'd got him for weeks before it was confirmed whilst the Italian press claimed he was going to Lazio even up to the day we signed him.

Not a chance Juventus sell to a rival for significantly less than we'll pay. It's possible Soule refuses to join us but it's already been said we'll pay more in wages and he's tempted.

I wonder if a lot of the groundwork for this deal was done when we had an Italian coach ?

Otherwise the whole thing makes little sense for a player who fundamentally wants to stay in Italy

You need threads like this to get you through the Summer. Same every year.

The excitement, the hope, the drama, the posters shitting themselves.

Great stuff.

It’s even better when it’s about a player most of us were scarcely aware of before he was linked with us. Having a collective mental breakdown about a well-known player just doesn’t feel the same somehow.

Are we actually interested in this player. Just conflicting reports but no facts. He looks good though.

Is it ever a fact until the clubs official channels have posted it a week after completion?

If Juve want to cash in though and he's refusing to come to us there isn't much they can do

The Premier League pull is undervalued a lot! Makes players seemingly at a top club in another league always jump at the opportunity. I can't see a club accepting a lower offer because of a players preference, seems illogical.

You’ve hit the nail on the head Re Italian journalism… how often do you see the headline “player x rejects team Y”….. happens all the time, the reality of the situation is, Juve will sell to the highest bidder regardless of what he wants or thinks. It’s a business, and he’s not exactly a big hitter for them, and as you say, they won’t strengthen a rival and accept less. He will only go to Roma if they pay the asking price.

We sold KDH against his wishes, because we had to, and to someone who was going to pay the money. Some people are naive thinking clubs like Juve care what their players think, especially players who are more fringe players. They just know he’s got potential, which is why they’ve put the price up at a premium.

But if that club wants to sell the player and the player refuses to join the club that has submitted the highest offer, the selling club may have to consider accepting a lower offer from a club the player is willing to join.

KDH was persuaded to leave for the good of the club because Chelsea came in for him. If the only offers were from Brighton or Brentford, I think he'd have refused to go.

If, as reports suggest, Juve needs to sell Soule to boost their transfer kitty, they'll have to care what he thinks. And if their choice is ultimately between being stuck with him because he refuses to join the highest bidder, or selling him at a reduced fee to Roma, they'll very likely opt for the latter.

I think he'll join Roma.

A player has no say in the finances of a club, they'll take the bigger offer.

They won't if we offer 10m more than Roma, it's just business.

They have list of high profile players they want to get in for Motta to make them competitive again.

The club cab take whatever offer it wants, but if the player refuses to sign the contract there is nothing they can do about it. Players cannot be forced to join a club if they don't want to. In Soule's case, if he knows that Juventus need to sell him and he wants to join Roma, all he has to do is refuse to sign for anybody else. Chances are, Juventus will eventually relent and sell for a lower price to Roma because they need the money.

Not sure I'm familiar with a single situation where a player has outright refused to join a club...he'll be getting a pay increase (most likely a healthy one knowing us) for joining. If Roma match what we max out as, or some culmination of that w/ bonuses then I imagine he'll go there.
