England post match

Recommended Posts

Good: Pickford, Shaw (til he ran out of gas), Saka (who had a good tournament), Guehi, Stones, the subs.

Meh: Rice, Mainoo, whoever else I haven't mentioned.

Not good: Bellingham (who, over the whole tournament, played one great half and scored a worldie then took July fortnight off, and today tried some disgraceful chucking himself to the floor in agony ), Foden (who had half a good game against the Dutch but not much more), Walker.

Awful:  Kane - Retire right now you hoss faced trophyphobic flat track bully.

I prefer the more fluent German football

They’re also a possession based side.T hey actually narrowly won the possession battle against Spain in their matchup.

Why doesn't Southgate play Gordon or Eze.... hopefully when he goes the next manager brings back Grealish and gives Maddison another chance

cos he hasnt got the balls too, think both of them would have done better than Bellingham and Foden

in all honesty its hard to really praise too many of the england team, as frankly they been awful,

only ones for me are Saka, Guehi, Palmer, Watkins and maybe Toney at a push

rest have been stinking

like Southgate playing the same 11 almost every single game, like a baby pushing a square cube in a round hole, hes not an elite coach, hes shown that, he might have a decent win % but hes failed to win a tournament when hes had the easiest runs to the finals and even then hes found a way to fudge that up

Really don’t think Maddison would have made a difference.

No he'd have gone missing with the rest. Would have told some of the journalists to stop saying nasty things though

Thank you to Southgate for the good things he has done, but time to move on to a coach who can implement patterns of play on and off the ball to help get the best out of the individual talent, and not just rely on staying solid and hoping that talent bails you out.

Spain had numerous ways to win that game, intensity off the ball forcing errors, controlling the tempo in midfield with intelligent, mobile ball players, or by upping the ante and utilising the pace/direct running of the wingers. What were our routes to winning?

We also need to not be afraid to put some individuals noses out of joint. I'm not going to criticise individuals too much this tournament because they aren't set up to succeed, but we need to be focusing now on fitting players into the system, and not building around the best individual talent.

On a positive note what a talent Cole Palmer is. Nothing seems to phase this kid. Completely carried Chelsea last season and now scoring in the final of an international tournament. Maybe a rare Pep mistake letting him leave

he hasnt got the balls to drop certain players, like Foden, Kane and even Bellingham, the first 2 have been pretty woeful for the most part

its amazing how much better england look with Watkins and Palmer in the team too, england need a refresh plain and simple, a manager who has the balls to drop players, tactically aware etc

not afraid to rattle the cages, something Southgate hasnt done at all

Rice comes into that group for me. He is not cute enough on the ball the be the deep lying midfielder in a low tempo style relying on dominating the ball.
