Saelemaekers

He would be a good purchase at £5mil in my opinion, not £10mil. We need to be using our money more wisely than throwing £10mil at players who dont automatically improve our starting XI.

We will struggle to find those players for 10m

Mavididi was £6.5mil, James Justin was £6mil, Winks was £7.5mil, Hermansen was £5mil. On the other hand Dennis Praet was £20mil, Ghezzal was £20mil, Danny Ward was £12mil.

A properly scouted player bought for £5mil  -£10 mil can be better than a £20mil player that was bough with very little thought behind it. In fact going for better value transfers almost always seems to bring in better players as it forces the recruitment process to be more diligent at identifying targets.

Agree with your sentiment completely. But we don’t know that Saelemaekers hasn’t been identified as the one either. Just because he isn’t within your bracket doesn’t mean that he hasn’t been scouted.

Having said that, I too would preferred we went a bit further afield and spent less on young players showing promise. Unfortunately it’s not that easy and straightforward. But I find it really frustrating that we don’t look at South America - Brighton have shown it can be done, who are at a similar level to us in terms of stature.

It’s a shame that when we get to the premier league, they seem scared to make these types of moves incase they don’t work out.

You now imagine this is being pushed now Soule has potentially rejected us

We deserve relegation if so. You don't target someone who specialises in not scoring or assisting if you miss out on one of the most promising creative players in Europe.

This will be me done if so, fcuk this.

Didn't you say the same this over Winks?

I wasn't happy with us targeting players like Winks and Coady straight off the bat of relegation with a bloated squad of experience and high wages.

There's absolutely no logic to going from a creator and goalscorer in Soule to Saelemaekers. We've replaced Albrighton with Cordova-Reid which is sensible. We need an attacking midfielder / winger who scores and creates to compliment Fatawu and Mavididi and plug the gap of losing KDH.

I don't see the point to Saelemaekers, certainly not on a permanent deal. It's a squad signing and unnecessary.

I prefer players with shorter surnames

I'm sure the club would have taken this into consideration if you had  mentioned it beforehand

Personally doubt it is a matter of Saelemaekers being the next choice if we can’t get Soule

I think we were/are trying for both

If we can’t get Soule, I expect we will go for someone else

The stats broken down by minutes were a goal contribution every 3 games weren’t they? Isn’t that similar Barnes?

have i severely misunderstood something here? doesn’t sound like he has no output.

@coolhandfox I think you pointed it out?

Let’s not equate less full games to less output.

What would you surmise then? We certainly don't need 5 wingers, 6 if you count McAteer.

Agree that the squad lacks balance. Leicester had one winger in the relegation season with Barnes and now it does feel the other way (appreciate some players may be utility).  I'm not really sure why Leicester recruited another central defender either unless there are offers on the table didn't seem a priority

Central midfield from an attacking sense is my main concern and the club seems to be skirting around the problem. Having said I understand that is is not easy to find affordable creative players to replace the likes of KDH, Madders, Youri, Perez etc

I think they see him and BCDR as options to fill a number of roles allow flexibility in formations. allowing us to have a small squad, tighter squad.

I think they could be seen as wingback options as much as wingers, DCDR can also play at 10.

We are 7 player down from last years starting squad we have still 4 down, we have a lot of reshaping to do and a limited budget, I don't see any of our loan players make there way back into the squad.

I would be surprise to see us cash in on McAteer as his pure profit, and I could see us moving on Justin who doesn't have much left on the books from his original fee.
