You're underselling that run, it was a great run. That is how Hudson Smith runs, he goes out hard and tries to hold on.

I wouldn't even say he tied up, he ran 43.44 a PB and a European record, he just got reeled in by someone finishing incredibly quickly.

Agreed. They said in commentary Hudson-Smith's time was the 5th fastest 400m of all time and still finished 2nd.

I don't mean to be over critical but after my comment even Michael Johnson said he was slowing down a lot. Still good to get a PB etc. The other chap ran a perfect race it seems

Anyone feeling a little disappointed with our haul this time please refer to Atlanta 1996. Much better funding etc but the improvement is to be celebrated as something the country has got right

Totally agree.

The Lottery is an uncelebrated success story for national pride and excellence.

John Major's thing, iirc

Fair points, so much better since the Lotto funding.

Just a little disappointing at all the near-misses - this Olympics might be team GB's lowest gold count in 20 years.

6th fastest time and 5th fastest person.

We all know what a freak Micahel Johnson was and how he obliterated everyone... MHS matched Johnson's 3rd best time ever. And it was nearly a full second ahead of the next best time by a British athlete ever.

Incredible run; just incredibly frustrating not to see it over the line for the gold. But what can you do!
