What was their point? Humiliating their history and the roots of these games as they were established and based on certain Hellenic values? This was a disgrace and I can tell more if you want about certain aspects as they were shown in this farce.

I'm not arguing. I'm trying to understand how someone French can find what happened acceptable. I can see now there's some huge backlash on media though so I don't think the French are happy with it.

Enjoyed most of the opening ceremony apart from the boat parade with the athletes - looked liked they’d been searching high and low for any vessel that was available for a days hire..Got visions of some guy called Pascal sat in an office saying ‘Fred Olsen Cruises say they can sort out a boat for the USA team, P & O Ferry can sort us out with a tender for the UK contingent. That porn barge that was doing the fingerbang video in Lille last night can do the Estonians and my mate Henri has got a coracle that can take the 2 lads from American Samoa. Chuck in some fireworks and we’re golden.

Thought we'd have laid a marker at London 2012 but we put a plonker like Stuart Pearce in charge to bin off any long-term hopes 

 

It's a shame, would love to see it given players past and present that have gone by. But unfortunately, I just think the politics will never allow it.

 

The bias would effectively be an England team plus the odd couple of others. And wouldn't put it past FIFA to stick their two pence in about us competing together

FIFA kicked off when they did it at London didn't they?

 

If memory serves they were getting to the point of telling us we won't recognise the home nations and will have to play as GB in the future.

Exactly this.

 

Team GB for men would mean that there would be no individual home nations in FIFA.

 

Afaik, the home nations are the only FIFA countries that don't set their own tax rates (or some other similar financial thing)

Just listened to 5-Live and they're discussing some horse dancing thing. As if anyone is actually interested enough to listen to a commentary on this 'game' (no sports in the Olympics).
