SouthStandUpperTier Posted 14 August Share Posted 14 August Not sure about the validity of this 'source' but will post anyway https://www.tribalfootball.com/article/soccer-premier-league-leicester-lining-up-bid-for-arsenal-star-816ed991-cb31-49eb-925d-b843d4eb2a3b? Leicester City may be ready to put in a bid for midfielder Reiss Nelson from Arsenal. Per The Mirror, the Foxes were hoping to bring Wilfried Zaha back to England. However, a deal to sign Zaha from Galatasaray in Turkey appears to have collapsed. The issue with the mooted loan deal is related to finances, which means they may look elsewhere. The source outlines that Nelson is seen as the alternative option by Leicester boss Steve Cooper. The Arsenal homegrown talent does want to leave this summer for more regular game time.
-sodapop Posted 14 August Share Posted 14 August I think they're just reporting old news here. I doubt we've doubled back, and no way we can afford this + Hlozek + Ayew

I think that’s the potential conclusion of this one - can’t see anyone picking him up for a transfer fee and those sort of wages. Whether that loans to us, of course, is another thing completely! Well it would be panic from Arsenal as they realise he's not going to feature so try to get his wages (or a portion of them) off the books for the season. He'd be a good option for us.

If it goes to deadline day, Arsenal will be much more open to paying a large chunk of his wages themselves.

This is why Kante, Mahrez, Fofana, Drinkwater, etc, etc all can't wait to get shot of Leicester. Maguire is on nearly 200K a week at Man United! That's why to become competitve, the club started handed out big wages to secure the likes of Tielemans. But then as we see it leaves you in a precarious position where a club is over leveraged on wages, it's hard to shift players on, and they will see out their contracts instead of leaving. This has happened to us many times, but we see that Arsenal and Man U have the same problem. These clubs would have moved on the likes of Sancho, Nelson, Nketiah a long time ago if they could get the fees they want, but teams aren't willing to pay up for them. Chelsea have moved to more of an incentive based wage structure as a result of this. But I'm not sure this will work for a club like Leicester. You have to offer the big bucks to stand a chance. I wouldn't be surprised if Harry Winks was on 80k a week, even in the Championship. Let's be honest, that's the biggest reason we convinced him.

Ric Flair Posted 19 August Share Posted 19 August Nelson in to play that LW role that under Cooper would operate more centrally would be a great piece of business. It's going to cost us though. Big loan fee and Arsenal top up his wages or we pay them £20m and they use some to buy him off.
Sunbury Fox Posted 19 August Share Posted 19 August Would love to see this happen but I'm working extremely hard to avoid building up my hopes yet again, only to find that we end up signing someone like Ayew instead.
Edingleyfox Posted 19 August Share Posted 19 August (edited) Thinking this through if he is on £120k per week buying him would seem out of the question unless he is prepared to take a wage cut of maybe a third and a further slice if Leicester are relegated, Not the most attractive option for him. Loan perhaps? Do we think he would add enough goals and assists? Still think we are shopping in the wrong markets unless Leicester have a lot more financial flexibility than is made out Edited 19 August by Edingleyfox
Jon the Hat Posted 22 August Share Posted 22 August This type of loan gets easier the close to the deadline. He is not going to get much game time at Arsenal, and getting him playing and half his wages paid is better than him sitting on the bench for 120k a week.
Sly Posted 22 August Share Posted 22 August Nelson and Nketiah both improve us, however I’m not sure we have the financial movement to get it done. From an FFP point of view, it makes sense if Arsenal sell them, albeit on the cheaper side, as they’re academy products so pure profit. No point loaning them out and still covering wages if that’s the goal.

Nketiah is kinda proven he can score goals at this level, hence why Forest, Bmouth & Palace all had strong interest. Nelson, has he even started 5 premier league on the trott? as you mentioned, this deal may happen towards the very end of the window - Whats the point of Nelson sitting on their bench? Not exactly drawing up any interest and clocks ticking on his contract.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 22 August Share Posted 22 August Nketiah is absolute rubbish and the expenditure involved to get him would represent an even worse deal. Still got a bit of hope we might get Nelson in.
