Jordan Ayew (interest confirmed by Percy)

Here we go again with using a literal miracle side to defend bang average players.

In a year we’ll be “having to sell before we can buy” again because BDCR and Ayew are on a collective 100k a week.

Give your heads a wobble.

Yeah fair point, but there are loads of strikers who have had a positive impact while not being prolific.

Taking a few Leicester strikers:

James Scowcroft: 5, 10, 4, 4

Emile Heskey: 7, 10, 10, 6, 7

Steve Howard: 6, 13, 5, 4

My point isn't that Ayew will be as good as  Okazaki, it's that there is a place for a non-prolific striker who suits a new manager's.style of play.

A striker who can bring in goals from wingers can be really impactful and really exciting - I'd rather get behind that than just whining.

Yes really.

After battling against Roma to sign Soule I thought that was the calibre of player we would be after, and then seeing O’Riley heavily linked with Southampton would be a kick in the teeth because he would’ve been the perfect replacement for KDH (who we still haven’t replaced).

I would’ve expected players like Hamer, Chair etc to fill that creative void and who also wouldn’t have been too expensive.

I actually think this could be up there with one of our worst windows if it ends with us signing Ayew.

Roma are a bigger club than us, so Soule once there was serious interest known was more than likely going there, felt like we was used as a pawn more than anything

O'Riley is linked with loads and the only team to put a bid in has been Atalanta, and imo id expect him to go there given UCL football

i fully expect us to get a replacement in for KDH; could be a left field name

as Ive said, look back at the transfers we've had the past 5/6 years, we havent signed anyone over 30 for a transfer fee.

Ayew is 33 this year

Just because he changed to a fancy name doesn’t change the fact he’s Bobby Reid above average championship winger, below average handyman in the PL in his prime which is now behind him.

i guess we should have gone for better then.......

wheres the logic and sense gone nowadays?

also look at the article, says "attracting interest from saudi clubs"

If Alan Nixon is right about this one it's almost as bad as signing Ayew himself. Stars aligning for all the wrong reasons.

Fingers crossed there's nothing to it. Or, if it happens, Ayew proves everybody wrong.

I'm not totally averse to signing a forward player who is more of a foil for the actual goalscorers in the side, but I'm struggling to see a positive to this one.

Time to walk away lads. Thanks for the 20 years of memories on here.

This is heartbreaking but I can't hack this anymore.

I’ll forgive them if they bring Kante home for the season and he keeps us in this bloody league after the crazy points deduction.

Shouldn’t we sign someone he should be the foil for before signing the foil?

What's the point, especially in already having a 30-year-old-plus striker at the club already (who is obviously much better)?

Would probably mean Cannon/Daka is certainly going.

If there is any shred of truth in this what an utterly utterly uninspiring move.

I really hoped we would have used promotion to attract young exciting talent from Europe and the cream of the EFL, with a smattering of young PL fringe players on loan with options/obligation clauses.

I am at a loss to what our recruitment strategy is this summer. Absolutely honking

Maybe Cooper's plan is to turn us into a MON-style team that scores a sh*t-tonne of goals from set-pieces. Because Ayew seems elite at winning free-kicks.

Positive spin on this:

Firstly, you need to look at him as a right sided attacker (I've taken this for Palace fans. Apparently, this is his position)

Once you accept this, his stats are pretty good.

When Cooper plays 4-3-3, removing from the equation McAteer and Wanya (who look likely to go on loan (Hull for McAteer BTW)), means we could have:

RHS Options: Fatawu/Ayew        LHS Options: Mavididi/BDCR

With the experienced 'swiss army knife players' able to back up the young flyers.

I'm trying my best here!!!

Some thoughts from Palace fans on their forum

I like him and he's fun. Takes the ball to a group of opposing players and goes down, getting the foul and relieving any pressure. Also the occasional great goal.

V important squad player.

I don't want to lose him as I like his attitude and work ethic.

I love Jordan Ayew - one of my all time favourite palace players - untouchable in terms of commitment to the cause

He always works hard and I'd be happy to see him stick around

Ayew is still an important member of that squad. He is the perfect substitute when we are winning.

Jordan has rightfully earnt his place as Palace stalwart. He has tremendous energy, gets himself fouled at all the right times, appears to be indestructible and seems passionate,in his low key way, about playing for our club.

This is like the scene towards the end of Downfall when all the Nazi soldiers are just sitting around taking a few last swigs of booze before they go somewhere quiet to shoot themselves. Except rather than the Red Army a few hundred yards away it's Jordan Ayew and his agent...
