At least it's a creative option but he's only a couple of months older than Alves.

Rather develop our own youth prospects than Brighton's, especially with no buy option :dunno:

We still can, if we think Alves is better during the season. But if he's not better, we'd be in the shit a bit wouldn't we.

So we take Brighton's youth to give them the squad space to sign Matt O'Riley and we can't even negotiate an option to buy?

Why are we so utterly pathetic when it comes to negotiating?

O'Riley to Brighton for £25mil+ would be an odd one, given they dont spend that on players over a certain age, still feel he might go Atalanta, given their strong interest and bids already(koopmeiners want out at atalanta)

and its not just negotiations, its alot more than that, its our scouting too,

the club as a whole doesnt tap into certain regions, theres alot of talent in south america and the club is frankly scared to death of tipping a toe in that pool

The last time we loaned a player from a club smaller than us in a season where we were expecting to be battling relegation, we ended up winning the league.

Just trying to find the positives.

The club will keep losing its best academy talent if they see no pathway to the first team. Signing young players from rival teams in your own league, on loan, with no option to make it permanent, screams poverty club with no sporting direction.

If cooper has had all pre season to watch alves and still wants to go elsewhere, there’s a reason for that. I get the clamour for him to be more involved but he might just not be ready yet.

If Alves had potential then he surely would be given a chance considering our situation. Cooper is not the first manager to seemingly not rate him high enough hence this guy maybe coming in. O'Riley to brighton and buonanotte to us is a sign of the times unfortunately.

Chilwell, Choudhury, Barnes, KDH, Lucas, Thomas, Mcateer have all progressed just fine. We've lost one supposed talent, which will always happen no matter what your pathway is because it was Liverpool tapping him up.

He's coming off the back of a serious injury, just at a time it looked like he might make a breakthrough. To put all your eggs in that basket would be foolish, he's still got the chance to impress.

Developing Brightons players… what a fall.

Yeah, would much rather not have a better chance of staying up if it means not helping someone else, right?

Buonanotte is a genuine talent in a position of great need. No-brainer, loan or otherwise.

Very keen on this.

Will Alves is a 19 year old attacking midfield/winger

Sure Buonanotte has more experience but how is Alves going to get his if we keep putting obstacles in his way?

Have I misunderstood their relative situations?

We can't just throw Alves into the starting line up. Even if he wasn't a young lad with no experience of regular football (let alone top flight football) he's still adjusting to life after a serious injury too - we need to take it slow with him. I would expect Alves to make the step up to the squad this season, but we need reinforcements who are ready to start games.

The guy that's reporting it (Tom Collomosse), although only the Daily mail, has said we're hopefully to sign 3-4 more players after him! Hopefully it was just an easy win to bolster the squad but I agree it can't halt Alves progress!

This is a great signing.

I understand the frustration about not developing our own players, but a good strategy for this season is to sign players on loan so we have a chance to stay up, but don't get financially ruined if we go down. We also need cover. This guy is an Argentine international, proven in the league, high ceiling. For this season, a great acquisition.

Yeah but the reaction is just the reality of our situation hitting home for people isn't it. It's obviously not a great look.

We're supposed to be Brighton, not getting their charity.

Exactly this, Buonanotte signing doesn't mean the door is shut for Alves this season.

I know Alves is great, but let's face it we need depth and options. Alves can't and won't be going straight in to play every single game.

I can't see that it'll actually restrict his development that much, either.

He’s a decent player but the deal kind of stinks.

He's played in the prem which is good and certainly has something about him, but a bit of sickener to Alves.
